I can't find any English-Thai phrase books in my small town I live in & I don't want to buy of the internet without knwing if it's any good. Any book store on Suk. Rd. that sells these books.
Can someone recommend a couple.

Check out the Asia Books stores -- several on Suk. Easy one to find is at the Landmark Hotel building near Nana BTS skytrain station. Another one farther down Suk going towards Soi Cowboy (east) direction. Check out http://www.asiabooks.com.
A few books I've used:
1) eBook right here on bkktonight. Download from main page.
2) The little phrasebook that comes with the Berlitz two cassette course.
3) The Rough Guide (but doesn't do Thai to English, a liability if you want to ask a Thai to look something up in Thai for you if they don't speak English).
4) The English Thai Dictionary, by Mike Simpson.
5) The three book series with cassettes by Benjawan Poomsan Becker: Thai for Beginners, Intermediate Thai, Advanced Thai
6) Teach Yourself Thai, A Complete Course for Beginners, by David Smyth
You can find all these online, and at Asia Books in BKK (though I didn't look for the Berlitz course while there). You will need to get some cassettes or CDs because the English transliterations are imprecise and you must hear the spoken Thai to get the tones, meter, vowel pronunciation and length correct.
Just MHO, your mileage may vary. I believe other books have been listed in various threads, you might be able to find more stuff with the search engine.
