hi all,

i have started studying thai at somkrang language school, located on sukhumvit soi 19. i can only recomend this school and i will bring an update of different schools i visited shortly. i plan to study for 6 month, but want to go ahead with my application.

i plan to apply for jobs in the finance sector, were i have worked before. i will go from door to door and deposit my curriculum vitae and my diplomas.

i have the following questions:
1. my diplomas are in english \ german and my qualifications are in german.
do i need to have them translated all in english? or better in thai?
2. can anyone recomend translation services?
has anyone used qtranslation.com? cost of 1 page a4?
3. qualifications are quite a sensible matter. is there a government aproval of the quality of the translation service? or any other aproval of quality?

in advance thanks for any suggestions

buxeda

DrLove
1 - Better translate them into English and Thai.
(International companies and Thai owned companies)
2 - PM me for address
3 - No approval needed, unless the company interested
to talk with you requires so.

Not to be cynical, but I have to agree with Chili ... dream on!

Thai knowledge (unless you talk fluently) is of less importance and I might sad does not improve your chances.

Most finance companies are foreign owned and have expats working sent out from the country where they are based. Thai banks generally don't need foreigners, as they have qualified thais lined up. Plus Thai companies are becoming less and less willing to take care of all the formalities (work permits etc).

It seems you are German, not a plus also. I noticed you spelled approval (as aproval) wrong in two instances ...

Reconsider your strategy. Try to befriend a manager or owner of a company. Relations ... that's what you need ...!

In addition to Dr Love's comments the finance industry has been hit hard in SE Asia.  I know a ton of people who used to work in the finance industry and are now trying to keep their PR Status (that is SE Asia wide).

To top it off, banks are consoldiating backoffice functions to India, Malaysia, and China.

Good Luck.

thanks for all replies, i apreciate your honest input.

dr love:
i am targeting foreign banks, because i also think that thai banks do not need farangs. i am swiss, and yes , german is my mother tongue. i dont know about thailand, but being a swiss banker in south america is a big asset for the reputation. ( many rich people there want to see a swiss banker for discretion reasons). of course i know, that the finance industry has been hit very hard, i also lost my job in my home-country. i know it will be very hard getting job, and it will also require quite a bit of luck. but who does not dream, will never see his dreams become reality. anyways i will invite you 3 guys not only to one beer, if i get a job...
where i have relations, i will go thru them. relations are v e r y important, i could not agree more with you.

thanks alot,

buxeda

ps: i will pm you for the adress, dr love
