Hi all brothers, I am on my way to Bangkok. I loved that place and i wonder if you guys know where can i possible get a decent job. I am open minded about it and i can do anything from IT to teaching English or Mandarin. But i know zero Thai and zero people around so i would need the advise of people as to where i can start looking. Btw, i had a degree in computer engineering and i have already applied for tons of jobs online without reply. I really hope that brothers on this forum would help advise me on it or even provide contacts because i need all the network i can get. Thanks a million in advance.

I just replied to a similiar post yesterday about jobs in Thailand. Well if you are not picky and want to build up your Thai and networking skills, then I guess a teaching job won't be that difficult to find. However don't expect to earn more then 30,000 Baht per month (and thats the high side). I think its a brave step your taking and if you decide to come, we'll try helping you out with info as best as possible. Butzy

He's being a jolly joker, suggesting you try sucking cock at Lolita's massage parlor. Bitch-slap him to Bangladesh for the insolence. I suggest you focus on the Mandarin teaching, a lot of Thai-Chinese families send their kids to Singapore for that. If I were you, I'd advertise in the newspapers in Thai -- get someone to help you with the ad copy -- and do it as a tutor not as a salaried teacher in one of the private schools. This way you keep the money, and control your schedule. The private language schools will run you all over town but only pay you for the teaching time not the time to get from place to place.

Thanks Sauron for the great advice! I could even provide a two in one package of teaching English and Mandarin at the same time. Haha. That will be one viable option for me. Anyhow i got an interview for an IT job in Bangkok. I think the pay will be little but i am going to try for it anyway.

Don't emphasize the English, as Thais want to learn English from "native speakers" -- British, Americans, even god help 'em Aussies and Kiwis. Hence the collection of totally unqualified whote guys somewhat less than gainfully employed by the private English academies. The Thais will resist being taught English by Asians. One exception I can think of is the English Department at Bangkok University, which is controlled by Filipinas. However the quality of their instruction is not so great. Focus on Mandarin -- less competition I think, and maybe good demand, especially from families that can afford a tutor!! In the present economic environment, maybe a tutor is a welcome alternative to packing the son or daughter off to S'pore to school. If you have any formal training in education, esp teaching Chinese to non Chinese that would go a long way toward establishing bona fides.
