I remember reading or was told that if you want to purchase an apartment or business or something here that you have to have proof of the funds transfer from overseas. I was told that only one bank offers this service and you should use that bank to save any hassle by not getting the documentation right. I was told recently that that bank was Bangkok Bank, but I was sure that it was another bank mentioned previously and not the Bkk Bank.
Does anyone know about this and particualrly which bank it is and the process and also for which reasons do you actually need this documentation, is it only for apartment purchase, or other things such as company or business startup etc etc. Thanks.

Ducks -
Banking in Thailand is an absolute nightmare.  I have many stories to tell which I will one day get around to posting.

It is indeed the BKK Bank that does all international transfers -  stuff around with any one else and you will get stuffed around in return. (your $$ can get held up indefinately)

We have a few bankers amongst us who should be able to tell you more - but BB I'm fairly sure is the only one to go with Int'l tranies!!

2B (bangkok bank) is good but imho not as good as tfb (thai farmers bank) - now renamed kasikorn bank. since it's reengineering some years ago, tfb has become really professional with it's services and outplay 2B in every game. having said that, banking transactions in los are generally hit and miss - sometimes you get lucky some times you don't.

FB,
I have tranfered funds to BB many times from Oz and never had a problem, that is not the question. What I need to know is which is the bank which issues the documents to prove the transfer from O/S for the purpose of purchasing an apartment. As I mentioned, I was told that only one bank did this and you should use that particular bank otherwise your documentation is f_cked and the whole purpose of doing for the requirements to buy something go out the window and it becomes a complete headroot. By the way, BB has had the best rates for international transfers as well lately.
HARDON,
again, it is useless unless TFB is the one the authority requires the documentation from for transfer of funds for an apartment purchase or such.

I'm confused, I need a nap.

FB,
So its tranies now huh, or is it again, shit knuckle draggers and tranies, what a combo. How was the babe on friday night, or more to the point how were you, you pisshead.

duck - so far i had no problems with tfb.

when you transfer the funds from overseas, please do the following:

[1] in the remarks column of application at source bank mention that funds are for purchasing property in thailand, (this remark shall appear then in all subsequent forms);

[2] in the senders column ensure that the name is the same as the name in which you wish to purchase the property;

[3] the receiver name and the account in which you receive money should match the name in which you wish to purchase the property, i.e. name should also correspond with the senders name;

[4] when the funds reach your account in thailand, go to the tfb branch and ask them to issue a form called "Tor Thor 3" and also get a regular credit advice. ensure that original remark (see point # 1 above) is mentioned on the TT3. (the TT3 form should take about 1 week to prepare as it is issued by tfb head office);

i have been through this procedure several times myself, but this is thailand and rules change like diapers on a baby with a bad stomach, so please call tfb and cross-check this info.

you could call their overseas dept @ (02) 8675164 to get the full info. a guy there called boorwin is quite helpful and very patient with our questions.

by the way ducks - all local banks issue TT3 and that is exactly the document that you need to show when purchasing your property...

The form I think you are refering to is the Tor Thor Sahm form which confirms that the funds have been transfered to Thailand from overseas. I also understand that this document is needed by the land registery when applying for title deed.

I believe that the Tor Thor 3 is issued by the Bank of Thailand and then gets passed on to the processing bank. ÝThat certainly seems to be the case with HSBC which I use for my company inward transfers.

Any banker bros. able to confirm this?
