On to answering your question. In my opinion, you will not get screwed if you exchange money at the bkk airport.
Yes, you can find better rates in town, but what are we really talking about here. Maybe a couple baht per $. Since time is money, I'd rather just exchange the money and get on to other businesses, so to speak. ha ha ha!!
I find that it's much easier to just exchange the money at the airport and be done with it. This way I don't have to walk around with my passport and cash looking for another place to exchange. And, if I do exchange outside on the streets, I usually will spent it before I can get back to the hotel!! ha ha ha ha!!
If you exchange at the hotel, then I say you'd better pull your pants down and open wide because you will take one up the ass there!! ha ha ha ha!!

ABC, thanks. Been there three times to wonderful BKK. Always exchange at the airport. Less hassle that way. Now that I know I am not losing big bucks doing that, I will keep at it. I will dutifully file a report following the next trip. I filed one in the BKK Field Report section a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to you and the other bros for the updated tips.

I didn't do an extensive search, but last month I noticed that the exchange rate at the airport was better than the booths on Sukhumvit.
And yeah, changing at the hotel sucks

When on last trip I changed some money in Ireland (got 39.5 baht to the Euro). Some in the Airport (got 42.1). the rest at booths (between 40.5 and 42.5). never at the hotels (about 37).
One day I decided I would get the best rate so i walked between several boths to check the rates - it took me about 20 mins and I saved about 200 baht - now was that a false economy or what.
Change at the airport and have a blast

You will get screwed changing money in the US airport. In the luggage area, BKK airport along the wall near customs there are two machines that will give you a good rate. DO NOT bring $100.USD series 1996 bills very hard to exchange.

Don't change your cash at the airport you get a bad exchange rate, in fact taking cash isn't a good idea.
Open a thai bankaccount(ATM )transfer money from your country to LOS an you'll be smiling all the way you
will always get the best rate if you do this.I have done it like this for years, it works perfect.When you arrive in LOS go to (for example) Bangkok Bank open an account
with ATM cardand put about 5.000 baht in to the account
Then get your domestic bank to transfer money to your new thaibankaccount this way you'll get a very good rate.This is how I did it the first time.

I ve got it that we should get our money changed at the BKK airport. But someone who has been to BKK a number of times was telling me that its always helpful to have about 1000 Bhats in you pocket as the visa counter is before you get to exchange your money. and the VISA officials do not accept US$. Is this TRUE
Also would like to know HOW can we distuingsh 1996 US$ bank notes from others.
And thirdly is it possible to open a Bank account with a 15 days tourist VISA> if yes how much is the deposit and whether this can be done at the airport or not.
