What should I expect to pay per month for electricity in a 1 or 2 bedroom condo if I run the A/C, lights, TV like I would in a Hotel where cost is included? ( I remove the key from the tag so everything continues to run while I'm out)

I'd think something in the 6,000 - 12,000 baht range. Depends really on the efficiency of the appliances, how many A/C units there are and how much volume they are trying to cool, etc.

California, In the Pattaya Jomtien area expect to pay around 2,000 - 4000 for electric depending on AC units, phone depends on your usage, TV depends on cable company 300 baht, water ~1,000 -2,000 for high usage. All of these would be on the hight side, everthing for me runs about 2,500-3,000. Hince the name.

Wow! now I know how thrifty my TGF is! She pays about 100 to 200 baht per month for electricity, and less than that for water. She even unplugs her refrigerator when she goes upcountry for more than a week. (She actually unplugs her TV during the day, because she thinks the little LED is burning up juice -- I didn't say anything, as, in the end, it all comes out of my pocket.) Suppose if I was living in LOS, I would drive her bills much higher. She was complaining that her electricty bills "skyrocketed" to around 300 baht when I was there. It's all relative, I guess. - Balls

A 3 bedroom house in the suburbs, 2 people, 1 air-con used a maximum of 8 hours a day for most of the year, plus the usual fans, tv, 4 outdoor lights for security etc. My electricity bill is 12-1400 per month. The a/c is the big power sucker. Manage without that and the price would be almost halved.

Bb, lots of Thais do the unplug the TV thing. A lot of the time it's because they don't trust the power supply. Lots of outages and too many surges that can ruin your tv. If you have a computer here you really need one of those uninteruptable power supplies like APC to safely shutdown your system, and to protect it against power surges. To give you more of an idea about the cost of a/c, in another house we had, before we installed a/c the power bill was 750 a month. Running one 13,000 btu a/c at 25/26 degrees for on average 8 hours per day increased the bill to 1500 baht. Water, using one twin tub washing machine and taking 10 minutes to water the garden most nights means a bill for us of about 300 baht per month.

One question that needs to be asked. If the electric company charges 3 baht per unit how much does the condo owner charge. Some greedy sob charge 7 baht per unit. Only one of many questions you should ask before you sign on the dotted line.

I have also known of places which have their own meters. They pay the MEA rate at 3 baht from the MEA metered records then distribute to sub meters calibrated to their liking. Even if they charge the 3 baht back to back (and most don't, like bigD has noted) who is to say their meters are not running fast. A trap which is sometimes hard to avoid.
