Hi guys,

As mentioned in other posts, off to Thailand for 3 weeks, taking a couple of grand spending money which I might not even need.

What is the best form to have money out there?

I guess Travelers Cheques would be good for Bangkok, and maybe Pattaya right?

I heard that Credit/Debit fraud is quite bad over in Thailand, so I have my worries.

So how is it done guys, are Switch cards usuable over there?

What's the best way to carry money?

All advices please

thanks

TC (no, not our BTF brother) are good everywhere, not only in BKK and PTT and they are easy to cash...fine defense also against bad TG/BG or anyone else.....
Credit cards....unless you use it in some sloppy/suspicious place, you should have no problem at all!
My suggestion?
Couple of 100 bills to change at the airport upon arrival, rest in TC....credit card to be used only in case of emergency or special occasions (huge shopping, fine and romantic dining etc...)
Have fun!

TC as stated always good. But "load-up" visa or MC and use big ATM's for cash withdrawals.
Enjoy your stay.

During my visit last month, I was able to withdraw cash from the ATMs on any of the BTS stations. I think as long as you have the Cirrus or Maestro logos on your ATM card, you would be able to withdraw from these ATMs.

You might also want to consider if your bank levies a service charge on overseas withdrawals - in such case I would suggest withdrawing a slightly bigger sum - enough for 3-4 days at a time. You can carry only that much cash that you would need for the day and keep the rest in the hotel in-room safe.

cool,

I have a Switch card, which has a visa logo on it, although it is not a credit card, would this work in ATM's over there?

Also once I leave Bangkok, & Pattaya, and head for the Ilands, phuket/koi samui etc, are these places also ok for accepting TC's, and have Atm withdrawal machines?

thanks

Caronte has it pegged.

Best TC denomination is $100 US Dollars - it gets better exchange rate than lower denominations and can be cashed most anyplace. TC denomination of $500 is OK but inconvenient - can generally be cashed only at banks or at major Exchange outlets.

The guys a Brit...why pay the commission (1 or 2%) to change sterling to USD, then to change it onto Baht. Sterling is a much stronger currency....just buy Sterling Travellers Cheques if you want TC.....

Of course...only a fool would change from Sterling to Dollars to get Baht. Am glad to see you knew that. The principle remains the same though...

(Could have picked up that he is Brit from spelling of "Cheques" - darn, how could I have missed that?)

(The US Dollar is more universally accepted however. )
