I anyone ever had a problem with a bank accepting the Visa T/C. Last year I was in Pattaya and I had to run around town to at least 4 banks before one would finally accept the T/c to exchange. I was a little afraid that this might happen again. Also if I have $500 dollar amounts is this a problem for banks and exchanges to cash? I want to go as smooth as possible.

I've never had a problem with American Express US$500 TC's in Bangkok but I seem to remember that I've read that in Pattaya the 500 do cause problems as in your previous case.
I go to a bank and pay into my Thai bank account then use my Thai ATM card.

What did the bank in Pattaya say was the problem? If the value was too high then only bring less value ones next time - US$100 always work for me.
Was it the issuing bank that the bank in LOS didn't like? If so then bring TCs from American Express, I never have problems exchanging them.
Did you not have your passport, cheqe signature not the same as your additional one, you had a very ugly BG with you? What was the reason?

PS: BTW, carrying a gun or walkin' in stark naked would also give them cause not to cash your cheque!

No these banks told me there was a problem with Visa and you will have to go to another bank or exchange which by the time I hit the fourth bank I was getting real nervous. After this bank cashed them and I was able to pay my hotel bill and spending cash. It was a releif but not one to go through again.

AMerican Express TC's are accepted at almost all banks. If you are having trouble finding a place to cash Visa TC's, call this number from Thailand 001-800-11-342-0662.

Ah ha! P'raps Visa TCs have a bad reputation at the banks you visited. Maybe the banks had been "burned' previously when some chap (ess) cashed a dodgy TC and the bank had to cough-up!
Like I mentched earlier, I always get away with American Express 100 US$ denominated TCs.

PS: It's a good idea to have a coupla different forms of "money" on your trip, if poss'.

I did have some problems a few years ago with Visa TCs. Seems there were a few bogus TCs floating around at the time.
I now travel with Amex only. Never had them questioned in LOS.

I remember seeing signs on different exchange booths that said they don't accept Visa TCs, luckily mine were all amex

How long ago was this as I have Visa T\c this year only $500 dollar amounts? I purchased these at the AAA as this is all they carry. Will I have a problem with exchanging these T/C in Bangkok or Pattaya?

$100 T/C would be the best choice.
$500. Thais are scared.
In Bangkok, you won't experience any problem. Few of them do not accept but you can take a walk for another money exchange.
In pattaya, from my experience about 70% of them do not accept my T/C and I found one that is near soi 8 in 2nd pattaya road side.
So far only Tomas cook T/C. In thailand, Amercian Express is more acceptable over Tomascook.
