Came across this on the web thought it would be of interest - kinda gets the spending we do into some sort of context what I easily blow in a day a lot dont earn a month.

I live outside Bangkok and most of the thais I work with earn less than 10% my salary. It amazes me they can live on what they earn.
There's lots of new housing construction in the villiage where I live. The work is performed by a group of Cambodians, who live nearby in a collection of small self-made shantys. They earn 140 baht/day for their long hours of hard work in the hot sun, and get 2 days off a month.

Though it does help to explain why there are so many working the jobs you mention, bimmher.
Considering that the overwhelming majority of working girls don't have the educational certification to get any job on that list that pays over 8000/month (many couldn't even show a Mattayom 3 certificate to get a job as a shop girl, which often pays less than 8000, much less Mattayon 6).
Everybody here knows how much they pay ST or LT or FS or whatever, so one can just do the math and figure out that even an estimate of two FS's a week a girl is doing as well as her fulltime clock-punching sisters in the Mall, 7/11, and some offices. Of course there are trade-offs. And we're just thinking of girls that work with foreign customers. A lot of girls all over the country hardly ever see foreign meat and get a lot less (though at least equal to planting rice etc).
The poor, if they can scratch and save a bolus of money, the best thing for them is to open a little noodle or somtum stand. Better potential and better work than being a construction worker. Of course, selling sex is what they do well; there's an attraction to the lifestyle of sleeping all day and hanging out with friends and loud music all night.
Be all you can be.

Selling sex is not what they do well. It's what their situation forces them to do to survive.
Whose little girl will sit on the porch and daydream "oh boy! when I grow up, I wanna be a prostitute!" ?
Then again, if the pay listed wasn't enough to survive. all the Macs and KFCs and 7-11s would've closed down already, so, probably it's the girls fcuked-up character that makes them wanna sell their own bodies.

God bless the cambodians ! Wish we could ship the french prols to third world shitholes, watch them starve to death while awaiting yet another social welfare miracle... meanwhile replace them with south east asian workers... tie the labourers to their task while screwing their young sisters... capitalism just has that sweet little twist...

Yep... caviar was out of stock even before the end of the first meal upon flying to BKK and the interlude in Colombo begins even worse than usual with aircraft technical issues in suvanboomboom so I guess some economically challenged young slim girl will have to pay... On a second thought even a a bunch of them...
