I always changed money at the airport upon arrival. Or is there better rate at the banks or exchanges in shopping malls?

Vasu on corner of Sukhumvit 7/1, across from Subway sandwich shop. Looks like a travel agency (it is), but they have money exchange toward the back. Hardly worth it for less than $1000 US or so, but their rates are about as good as you can get.
Superrich across from Central World is about the same, but harder to find. There are lookalikes trying to steal their business.
For small amounts, who cares if it's plus or minus half a baht on the dollar...the airport is fine for exchanging enough to take a taxi.
The worst deal, by far, would be at your hotel, where they rip you a new one for baht.
Best deal is an ATM, in the arrival hall, especially if your bank refunds ATM charges, like Charles Schwab Bank does.

If you are in the Soi 3 area, go to Soi 3/1 there are plenty of money changers there. And they open till very late, some till 4 am in the morning.

Vasu USED TO have good rates, but it was about 2 years ago, last time I checked their rates were not good
another place that has good rates is "superich" near Big C in Pratunam, to get the best rate go to their main office and not to the several sub-branches they opened (for example in the skytrain) as the sub-branches give lower rates!

Just remember to change either 100 or 50 euro notes...youll get a far better ex rate....
dont bother changing 20 or 10's...
