One of the nice things about living here is how you can augment your nomal boring daily chores with P4P.
Need to take your car to the dealer for the next 5km checkup, you my as well go to Eden for a nice 90 minute session while your car is being serviced.
Need to pick-up some documents from the embassy or lawyer, you can make a quick pit stop at Lolita's for a quick BJ
The P4P definitely takes the boredom out of the day-to-day chores.
When you stay here, IMHO your goal changes to building relationships with girls you like rather than trying to compress as many screws you can get into defined schedule. You tend to become more selective with girls and do not feel pressured by time.
I budget 20K for entertainment (which includes everything as all drinks, DVD's etc.) and 20K for food (both groceries & dining out).
If you don't set some budget constraints you can easily get swept up into things and sucked dry..so to speak
Many a men have come here with a large stash only to return back to their home country penniless with nothing to show for it except memories and a sore dick.

No offense taken but I mentioned Soi 33 because it's the easiest way to meet expat's and I've always found the regulars to be a pretty socialable bunch. I've always found it a good place to relax before getting into the thick of it down cowboy or nana.

is what burns in my mind. ÝWell, I guess I am at that age when sex isn't too far from my mind (it's on my mind almost every second of every damn day  ) And my current gf isn't how shall I say? really enthused by sex ÝI have to really work hard to get her going. ÝSometimes, I just think, wow, wouldn't it be cool if I could just sneek of to one of the MPs or similar place for an hour or so and come back relaxed!
Infact I'll break up with her... damn here comes the "you are such a bastard, I hate you... blah blah blah."
The 20,000 for fun and 20,000 for food sounds like a damn good idea. ÝI could spend that much right now, but then I guess some nice TG or a Farang friend(and no I am not gay, I mean as house mates) would have to let me shack up with them

LAS VEGAS amd THAILAND are comparable.
Guys hit the tables with all the gusto in Las Vegas that guys dive into the P4P scene in Thailand.
Your first visit is a short stay. You get a real dose of mega impression. Then you start feeling, usually on the way back on the airplane, that this is the life you were born to.
Your brain remembers all the good stuff and how you enjoyed spending your hard earned cash, which probably took you months to save.
Your per diem is far higher living the wild life than it is back home on the farm, but that's easy to rationalize.
You forget that expenses like rent, car, health costs etc etc will whittle whatever you can make in that dream location that you were born for, down to a stubby pencil pretty quick.
Now if, a big IF, you make the move the pressure to enjoy the life you have chosen (or did it chose you?) at the same speed as you were moving when you first got the bug probably wipes out that extra cash you brought along---for emergencies.
Now you are stuck! Can't get in ...can't get out. You get that 'Hotel California' feeling and you really hate hearing that damn song!
So the gambling oasis dries up and/or the pussy paradise turns into a labour camp where a quarter slot machine or a 300 Baht HJ only brings back those good memories that brought you wherever you are, in the first place.
So how much do you spend per month on gambling or pussy? Well you spend the rest of your life counting that up, one way or the other. And that stubby pencil gets shorter and shorter.
And don't forget that one day your going to want to find a woman who really enjoys all this action that you say is just over the rainbow. Only Mary Poppins will do.
Been there, done that--in both locations.
Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.
That's the beauty of it all.

I don't want to be bonking day and night. I just want to have the option of "just going into a MP while my car is being serviced" type of thing!
Also, the weather in Asia suits me better and not just LOS. I've stayed in Hongkong for about 3 months when I was a teen (sort of an exchnage student thing but only during the summer) and I couldn't wait to get up in the mornings. Needless to say, I had a blast in HK.
I guess SE Asia feels a lot more vibrant and not like where I live. Damn, nothing is walking distance, every house looks cookie-cutter same, the stores look pre-fab, uhhh, anyone seen the eyesore Walmarts.
The only other place that's fun for me is Paris, but I am not a fan of their socialism shit.
I mean, seriously, even if it was not for the p4p, I bet most of the expats find a lot of other things to keep them occupied. Here, in Canada, we work all day, come home and park our butts in front of the TV, since going out regularly is either too expensive or there just aren't "cool" places to hang out. The whole social system is f_cked. Everyone is getting more and more isolated. And believe me, I am a loner, and I don't mix all that much and even then the height of isolation is getting ridiculas.
Most people are too stressed anyway. If everything goes as planned, maybe in a few (say 5) years, I could run my software dev business out of LOS That would be a dream come true, well sort of anyway.
So, BKK seems to be a good option even if only for a few years.
And again, I'm not looking for a life where I'll have sex with 10 women everyday and get drunk etcetera. P4p would be like going to the moves once in a while

My point is that hanging with expats sort of defeats the purpose of living in Thailand, assuming one is serious about living in Thailand. But it is good to have someone to show you around, and to have friends to help when needed, so I guess it's just about balance.
Soi 33 IS a bit pricy, though, and as has been pointed out, the BGs aren't much better than anywhere else...

Mr. ComicNihilist....yeah the theory is good, as you say, staying just for 5 years or so. But what happens is that you are even more cut off and out of step with your homeland, which makes it tougher to get back to when the 5 years wears thin.
You said you were a loner, well you really don't know what alone is until you need real help in someplace like Thailand.
Mr. haam sup....I agree. But if I may expand your thought. It is not just how many expats you hang with, but the kind of expats you rely on for connections/friendship
Some good guys hang in Thailand , but as well there are some real assholes who would rob you blind at the first opportunity and put it down to 'training for the real life', smiling all the while.
Just because you are the same nationality, or for that matter, same skin colour as another expat doesn't ensure the rules of conduct will be fair or just.
