Well in some places like NY, DC, London, or Tokyo $90,000 a years is not alot. I have read this forum and visited BKK a few times and know that this amount would be a heady sum for someone in BKK, maybe the same as making $400,000+ in the USA.

I make more then a few time 90K and would think twice about taking a Job in BKK for that much. But I would never move to BKK since my friends and family in the USA are to important to me, even if I made the same type of money in Thailand.

300,000 a month is about $7500 a month. I'm from NY originally and families live on less than that kind of money, so it's a sh_tload in BKK! If that's not extravagent enough for you in BKK, then I wish I had your childhood. I'm not sure how much you're losing in alimony though.

Are you in need of an accountant? Just let me handle your bread.

I have been debating on moving there on an early retirement. I asked one of my Thai friends how they thought I would do with only 150,000 baht a month and they said I could live like a king. But then again, I am not saving for anything anymore or worrying about the future much.

If someone offered me a job for 300,000 baht a month in Bkk, I would jump on it fast.

Hi all
Thanks for the replys (most of them anyhow).
I guess my main concern is cost of living.
What is an estimated equivilant of 300,000 baht a month to US dollars. One reply stated that that is the same as 400,000. US dollars a year. Is this true? That comparison seems high to me, but I really don't know.
Alimony has to come off the top in US dollars, so that brings it down a little bit.
Also, I am far from retirement so I have to worry about my future.
I work in a highly specialized field, and if I leave the states,
it would not be easy to jump into another gig.
When I talk about extravagant life style, I mean to say that right now I have enough disposable income to satisfy
my desires, but when I think of living on $7,500 a month
(here in Los Angele. ) it is a daunting thought.
Thanks again for the useful advice
peace

The best person to speak to on this subject is BigDUSA. I am sure that he could draw up a budget that would leave plenty of cash for savings at the end of the month.

One other idea, I am going to LOS around December for a month so why not send me 300K baht and I will see how lavish I can be. If the results are inconclusive, just keep on sending the 300K until I have worked it out.

Seriously though, you should jump at it. You will have a great time and you might find that your priorities quickly chage around for the better i.e. work to live not live to work.

Tvrqr,
i have no idea of the volume of the alimony you have to pay but I can assure you that with 300k baht budget you can live in the fast lane here in LOS!
Not the top, but very close.....and if you settle for the medium/high, you can even save at least 150k.....
So, with 150k/month available, here we go:
35k apartment in central area
50k on food&beverage (2 meals/day @ 1600 baht each)
15k small shopping/clothing
25k on car rental - if not needed, more budget free!
25k P4P & entertainment
Surely you can change the figures up to your needs or pleasure....but 150k should be enough to handle all....

Caronte, I spend more on entertainment and P4P than on food. But that is me. But anyway, the end total comes about fine.
