Don't understand why you are having problems. I have been receiving funds from the US, just by providing the following information to paying party:
Bank: Bangkok Bank Public Co. Ltd.
Branch: __________ Branch
Name: <your name>
Account Number: <10 digit account number>
Swift Address: BKKBTHBK
And I normally see the money within 24 hours. The amount normally clears after 2 pm BKK time.

Visa should give you the best rates or so they say. It all deppends on what bank you will send them to. The best is to take them in the Pocket and change them under the tabel when you come here.

I know this topic has been quiet for a while. But just wanted to inform other members.
If you use WAMU (Washington Mutual) Free Checking Account which can be done online totally (fund the account through other banks) ; they offer free international transfers. Although you have to go to there service centers in person to authorize the wires.
I just recently sent money via WAMU, and it arrived in my friends Bangkok Bank account within 2 days. The exchange rate (since it was converted in the country) was 34.4 baht. Although there is an option to leave the money in USD. There was no extra costs on his side or cost via intermediary
Just something for some of you sponsoring ladies, mortgage payments, mobile phone bills, etc.... to think about.
The normal cost for the transfer at WAMU is US $20. I saw that Wachovia offer it for $12; so the WAMU Free Checking w/ Free International Wires is definitely a deal.
I will post if there is any difference with Kasikorn Bank as I am wiring to that bank in the next few days.
