Yes, $1,500 per week should do it. Ofcourse if you wanted to, you could even blow up the entire $4,000 in a week.
You should change maybe $100 at the airport to take care of the taxi, etc and change the rest as you go along at the many money changer booths all over the place. They give the most bahts for your dollars. Better than at the airport. The hotels ofcourse are the worst.
And it is always better to carry bahts with you......for the girls, the clubs and bars and for shopping.

One more tip: Always count and double check the change and receipt when exchanging money. You might also want to stick to nice even amounts $100 = 4300 baht so that you don't get tripped up.

The girls will definitely take US currency. But you are better off converting it to local currency. You can change your traveller's cheques at the banks, but most of them close quite early. There is one little box (Siam Commercial Bank, I think) at Soi 7, which stays up to 7 pm.
Damn! US$4,000 is definitely more than enough for 12 days! If you are not sure what to do, read the 10,000 B/day post.

for 12 days, i would bring only $2000 cash and $2000 T/C. This is a lot of money, mind you. Usually a $200/day budget is good. So if you want to drop that much, try soi 33. Also, you may want to bring large bills to convert. You get a better exchange rate. when will you be in BKK again. i'll be there in 2 days.

I posted this one elsewhere: USD notes (I bought them at Heathrow) 1990 or older got rejected in BKK by the hotel and the banks and Money changers. I never got a sufficient explanation. I survived on Mastercard and Cash dispensers.

At $200 per day you'll be spending a lot of money. I was there for 45 days and traveled a bit including a $230 plane ride to a higher priced country and spent about $5,000US including presents. Had a great time on about $120 per day.

Always have access to an alternative source of money. Just in case you end up with a problem like Liftoff talked about where they would not exchange his US bills since there was most likely a high amount of fake US money around and the hotels were just being cautious. What happened to me was I found my Canadian Bank card did not work in local Bangkok ATM's So I had to resort to cash advances off of my credit card for money. Good thing to carry plastic.........Sure saved me from a jam!!!

Something else to keep in mind. I noticed at the airport exchange booths that they are no accepting VISA Traveler checks. And, I have never had any problems with the new U.S 100 dollar bills. I have had some problems with the old ones, but if they dont' accept them they I use the new ones and try again at another exchange booth.
