Nah, Menethil asked what a poor rate was, and I was just quoting an example, which you would probably get at Foodland or some hotel. Most money changes would give about 1 USD : 31.xx B.

When I was last in Bangkok in April the best Super Rich rate was at its Head Office located in a soi just past Big C shopping centre on Ratchadamri.

Super Rich`s other offices gave slightly lower rates, but still better than any other commercial bank.

Early in 2010 there were counterfeit 500 baht notes circulating, and I was reluctant to exchange money at other possibly unlicensed money changers.

Although I have not heard whether counterfeit baht notes are still circulating, I suspect it remains a problem in the absence of any indication that the counterfeiters have been arrested.

I think there would be a significantly greater risk of being passed a counterfeit note at a small probably unlicensed money changer.

Quite apart from the financial loss associated with a refusal to accept any Thai currency tendered by a foreigner, there would be a significant risk of the Thai police accusing the foreigner of knowingly passing counterfeit notes. It might be very costly to persuade the police to withdraw such an accusation.

Checks are not more expensive than cash if you get the higher denominations. Usually 500 or more. The reason is the TCs get higher exchange rates than cash which will pay for itself on bills $500 or more. If you get TCs for $100 or less it's going to be a loss vs cash for sure but you have security...

Larger domination helps to get the best exchange rate. Super Rich Currency Exchange so far has the best exchange rate they have several location, the 2 that frequent the most is at Entrance of Chit Lom BTS Train Station and also one in Patpong near the Kentucy Fried Chicken as soon as you get off the Sala Daeng BTS Station

In your opinion, where would be the closest place from the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit to change traveler's checks?

Thanks in advance!

If I recall correctly, I think there is an exchange booth connected to the front of the hotel where I've changed my traveler's checks before.

PF,

Thai Farmers Exchange Booth is just north of the SG....really close and gave me a better rate (just a bit) than the Siam Commercial Bank, I think thats the one adjacent to SG

This was late March/early April and I got like 29.97 for $100 bills.....Jesus, I hope it has not dropped below that rate

Can you still cash travelers checks in BKK? Especially in Suk area? Was told people are starting to have problems with places no longer cashing them. Still like them better than cash or counting only on electronic sources. Thanks
