Speaking of TC, all the banks I know I france do not make them for free, they charge you about 2% of the total amounth to make them, you have to order one week in advance and they do them only in 100 dollars denomination.
Ok you get a better rate when you exchange them, but you also have to pay 30 baht to cash them and most places out of the tourists area wont take them.
IMHO they are expensive, complicated to get and to cash and not very usefull. Better to have cash and a good travel safe.

Why would anyone that isn't running from something want to move all their supposed assets out of a safe country that pays interest into a third world country that doesn't pay squat, and could Nationalize, or bankrupt the whole banking system again at any time, unless they were running from something. That is if there really are any assets after your supposed ex gets done.....lololol.

Blonk, I do not know if Bangkok Bank has a branch in Australia.... they do have one in New York.....
But I wire cash, it costs me $45 per wire and I clear it through Bangkok Bank and have it converted once it gets there... if I convert it before it goes there they rip you off..... The $45 is for any amount so as a % of the total if you send larger amounts it is not an issue... but I don't know how it works with Aussie banks.

I always used traveler's checks when traveling to LOS, normally in denominations of $1,000.
I would not mail them as TCs are required to be signed "at the time of issue" by the payee. If your TG isn't with you when they are issued she cannot sign them. You would have to send them unsigned.
If you mail them unsigned, even though there is a payee, anybody that intercepted the envelope could sign her name as the payee and get them cashed somewhere in Thailand. The signatures would agree so it is likely they could be cashed and you would have no recourse to get replacement checks issued.
Find the cheapest source of bank transfer and do it that way. Whatever happened to Western Union?
