I know this thread died a long time ago and "newbie" may be long gone but to me it's obvious why the girl gave him a funny look:
"Actually, she quoted me 2000 bt and I dealt down to 1500, then to be a nice guy I tipped 500 more."
I'm sorry guys, but the girls are often offended by bargaining (that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it) and I'm sure this girl was thinking "So why the f_ck did you make me bring my price down and then give it to me anyway?"

Well...
As long as we all don't spoil the market like the Japs do, paying 500 more is no big deal. In fact, i find it ok as a tip if you enjoyed the service...
Furthermore, the whole Asian economy isn't doing that well, so if prices of hotels do come down, i'm sure everything else will follow...

Actually, I do the same thing (or would do it if it came up more often, which it doesn't). Certainly the girl will be offended by some kinds of bargaining, but most Thais are quite comfortable (far more than I am) about bargaining respectfully over anything.
In my case, if the girl quotes an outrageous price, I would have no problem bargaining down to a fair price and I think many girls have little respect for those who don't. Then if I choose to give them a large bonus, it is completely up to me. Maybe it's a personal flaw, but I don't want them to take me for a newbie (or an idiot). Certainly many girls will lose some respect for me when I overtip, but I don't have a problem with that.

- I'm afraid this is one area where I wont bargain with Thais, - simply because if the TG mentions money/price straight off, - the odds are pretty high you have a full on worker, who will do plenty of moaning and groaning, but with little real effort or action ! - I will let them know I understand they are working, and they will be compensated, but instant mention of money = instant RED card for me !

I've only run in to one B/G, Dollhouse, Pattaya told me she wanted 1500 for long time as soon as she sat down. I blew her off. Another girl Noi, Bamboo Bar wanted 3k after we had played pool drank a few beers for a couple of hours . She's a mute girl and I didn't want to pay anywhere near that so I started at 500 and worked my way up to 1000 which is 500 more then I usally pay for S/T but I can imagine how hard it is for her. She was pleased with what I paid her as it seems I have a "friend" for life at least that's how she acted when I came back to the Bamboo on my next trip. Noi a good pool player she pays for the game when she loses.
I pay 500 for S/T and 1000 L/T. Girls seem to be more then happy with this as they always act that they are glad to see me when I come back the next night or the next trip and ask if I will barfine them again. These girls have better memory then mainframes regarding prices paid in the past.

Maby it's that BigD huh? lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree with most on the tip and yes I too felt compelld to agree with high prices and then tip big after when I was a newbie. Ya live and learn though, I still dont actually talk money when in the clud bar gogo or whatever. I do it after I get them out and to a disco or some place other than there. By that time they have realy warmed up to being with me and I rarely get asked for or told more than 1k. If I hear up to you I always say I take for free. But I do give money even if they said free ok mai bpen lai.

First, tip what you want. Don't believe all of the nonsense about paying too much. There are no set prices in LOS when it comes to the women.
Second, it is hard to surmise why she looked at you funny without knowing more detail Was it a LT or ST? Did she perform well or horribly? What was her attitude during the time when you agreed upon a price?

im the same as you on this topic i never discuss money and i never have any complaints about the amount i give them the following day.norm 1000 l/t girls will always see me again if i want to see them (and im not hansum man) just treat them well at all times.
