Turist,

As a diving instructor I am from time to time offered a job in LOS, but I do usually not speak about my degree, even with the people in business. I was offered a job during my last trip again. If you are really desperate about working in LOS this might be the easiest way. But you need to know somebody who has a shop or somebody that recommends you. But be prepared, the salary is normally lousy and you mainly do this for the joy of diving not to get rich.

Thx for the many responses. I started the tropic because I was sitting checking prices for all most everything in BKK.  And as expected everything was alot cheaper than where I live. So I began dreaming about the life-stile a western salery could buy in BKK, but realized that I knew nothing about it, and even if it was possible (I didn't account for anything else than the money-issue, eg. not if it is a nice city etc). It was just a dreamer's question and your fine answers got me down to earth again ofcause. But I know of Danish firms operating in Thailand so if I should so desire in 2˝ years when my education should be finished, I could look more into this subject!

Thx again from the dreamer!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but it's an interesting theme - guys loving Thailand and dreaming of working over here.

It is a dream, of course, but it's not am impossibility. As in everything in life, if you want something enough you can generally make it happen by hook or by crook.

The advice about working for an international firm that has offices in Bkk is a good one. I work across Asia in a marketing role for a large law firm and that brought me to Bkk several times. I thought I could live there, so I approached the Thai office and asked if they could host me if I engineered a move. No problem, they said. I then went to my bosses and said it makes no sense for me to work for Asia but base myself in Australia. In the end, I ended up putting together a proposal which showed that they would get better value (both in terms of outputs and reduced costs) by relocating me to Bangkok. They agreed.

I start in October. A dream made into reality.

Do I foresee difficulties ahead? Of course. I'm not naive. Am I willing to work through them? Hell yes.

Keep the dream.

It's still a dream... but if you believe and go for it, anything is possible Read how below...

The New Trent – Export to Thailand…

Quite a while after I started this tread (Turist was my old “name”), my master degree is getting near… From what my professors talk about “the new big trend” is soon going to be exporting to the East. With millions of Asians getting more and more money in their hands every year, and the Asian governments becoming globally orientated (opening their markets), western firms are beginning to see golden opportunities in getting their goods transported to the Asian markets and sold to billions of customers.

Before (and to day) Asia was the place to produce and then ship back home… In the near future (and to day) western firms want to sell their products there too… But how do a firm do it??? This is a new thing, there are none with experience in this field…

I have tried tailoring my semesters so I would be able to answer the question above as good as possible. This means that I have chosen courses that some what relates to “the export to Asia”.

Only downside is that “the golden markets” often are mentioned together with India and especially China… Not Thailand… But I don’t worry about that … hehe
Soon I am heading for Thailand on vacation for 3 or 4 months. The main reasons, other than the ones you all so well know, hehe, are to learn as much as I can about their language and to find out if there is a possibility to write my finishing paper there…

If so, I will return shortly afterwards again to write it and then back to Denmark to defend it and get my degree and I am then ready to take the world (Reads Thailand) by storm.

I’ll let you know my progress.

PS: Regarding the “learning Thai”… I am NOT under the impression that I will be able to lean the Language in 4 months, actually I fear that I will fail this part of my plan by coming home only being able to count to "zip" and say khrap.
But this time I travel alone and I will try to consume as much of their language as possible… doing it at home in front of my computer isn’t fun anymore 

What about a government job? Foreign Ministry has an Embassy in BKK.

If you speak excellent English you could come here and teach at the university level. Check out www.ajarn.com
