An Asia man walks into a currency exchange in New York with 2, 000 Yen, and was given $72. The next week he returned to the sane exchange and passed over 2, 000 Yen, this time he was given $66. He asked the teller "why get less money than got last weeks" The teller replys "fluctuation" The Asia strorms towards the door, turns round and shouts back at the top of his voice: "Fluc you Amelicans too"

Good news for Aussies travelling to Los in the very near future, I got an exchange rate yesterday of 30.35, hows that, exchange enough cash and you could end up with 2 million baht for free as compared to a few months ago!!! Money for nothing and sex for little, pity it will all be closing early soon.

Hi Arrive tomorrow (Thursday 8th April) - can anyone give me the current "real" rate in the exchanges for £GB in BKK. Spread in UK for buy/sell is 77/65 so Im hoping for around 70 in BKK at the moment. Is that optimistic? Useful to know as it will help me decide how much to change here. Thanks

71.62 (= 1 pound in cash) at bank of asia, thailand today. so should be about same at the tellers at the airport. you don't need to change anything in the UK. rtb

A spread of 77/65 is outrageous. Get about 50 £GB converted at the BKK airport when you arrive, and the rest get converted at any of the large banks around Bangkok (there are plenty of these on Sukhumvit and elsewhere). The exchange rate and service charges are not as good at the airport as compared to banks. Better yet, bring traveler checks, which have an even better exchange rate than cash, and you can get a refund if they are lost or stolen. Obviously, travelers checks make more sense if you can get them without paying a fee.

The spread in BKK is typically 1% off the interbank rate: lower when buying baht, higher when selling. You'll get a slightly better rate for traveller's checks vs. cash, but not enough to really care about. Security should be the motivator here not a few pence. All banks will give the approximate same exchange rate on a given day. It's not worth breaking a sweat and wasting shoe leather to find another when converting from Anglodollars, pounds sterling or Euros. More obscure currencies like Malaysian Ringgit can have a mcuh wider spread and in such cases it does pay to shop around. Don't change money at your hotel: the rate they give is insultingly bad.
