Well, to be honest.... I say this now with all this clarity because I am not head over heels over any such cute little sexy beautiful young girl at this moment -though last year I was, but perhaps fortunately (??) she didn't like me, or else God only knows what stupid things I may have done.
Problem is, we men are the only "species" that seem stuck when it comes to emotional evolution, thus failing to learn by trial and error. Otherwise how to explain that we keep making the same mistakes again and again.
I am sure the moment I fall for another girl, I will repeat some of the same mistakes I have already made in the past (for example buying phones, and I have avoided posting in that topic -upset enough I get when I remember  ). Mistakes, which I keep now telling myself "never again."
There must be a strong gene that we haven't figured yet how it works, and that makes us men be so stupid sometimes when it comes to women.

Of course, most 'amateur knights' come unstuck by translating what is for them a novel and wholly unfamiliar situation into terms which make sense to the farang mind. While infatuation, desperation or whatever may play a role, I think it's unfair (as a few earlier posters have done) to damn all these guys as idiots. In many cases, it's a very understandable mistake and their motives are far from contemptible.
Chompoo also made a very interesting observation earlier (I revive it solely because some people may have lost it in all the fuss over MX). He suggested that some sponsors must be taking a long-odds bet with their eyes wide open - and if they have nothing to lose in an otherwise joyless and lonely existence, why on earth not? ð

Arcadius, do we disagree? I do not think so. But we men, are ahead of women when it comes to being idiots in the love department. Not only here in Thailand, but everywhere else -here it may just be that circumstances makes it easier and more evident to notice.
There are some serious attempts that try to explain all these differences in behaviour between the sexes (and why we men are the more stupid ones) with a scientific approach, but getting into this would probably turn the discussion boring. Nevertheless, I will try to find online a 1994 article (I have a printed copy but I do not want to retype it -too long) on the evolutionary reasons that explain the economic advantages/disadvantages of infidelity (economic advantage refers here to the ability to be more successful at passing genes than the other competing males/females) and also explains how love has a biological evolutionary reason to be (blowing somehow the purely romantic concept that is there because ..... )
Anybody interested, I can also suggest some literature on the matter -though it may be a bit a bit boring to most-.
In my post above, when I say "stupids", I do not exclude anyone. As all can notice, I did not exclude myself from the "stupid" label

Funny, it didn't even occur to me that you 2 were disagreeing. I don't think the two posts are contradictory, really.
[By the way Smeg, I too have read much on the subject you refer to and all of the evidence reinforces what I feel almost instinctively and beliefs I hold from empirical knowledge as well. Anyway, it is an old idea held by many that biology/evolution is the ultimate determiner of human behavior and I tend to go along with that. Of course that's an extreme simplification but I'm not going into all that here...]

No we don't disagree. I certainly wasn't including you among the 'few earlier posters'.
Men more idiotic than women in the love department? Oh yes - absolutely. Hopelessly amateurish by comparison. Always have been, always will be.
I do think the gap may have narrowed a bit between farang men and women - mainly because farang women now live so much more like men than they used to. Not that I'm really qualified to judge. It's quite a long time now since I last conceived a romantic or sexual interest in any farang woman.
So far as the TGs are concerned, I'm putty in their hands. They still bowl me over as completely as they ever did, and knowing more about their little tricks doesn't seem to help.
I find the only solution is to be into several at the same time - if they're all pulling you hither & yon, it's possible to maintain some sort of equilibrium. The day I allow myself to be interested in only one TG to the exclusion of all others will be the day the quicksand closes over my head. ð

Sorry if I made it sound as though I thought he thought we disagreed while we were not.
Btw, Mr, one of my favorite researchers on this type of subject that I like to read is Richard Dawkins -many toehrs have followed him since he came up with the "meme" concept. I like one of his first works, the now classic "The Selfish Gene". But I think he really excelled in the sequel book "The Extended Phenotype: The Long Reach of the Gene". Well, lets leave this discussion for another day and another place perhaps.
