If one make a bank wire transfer from US bank to thai bank, I presume, it will get the onshore rate, Is that correct????

Unless you are a bank that is not the case as the onshore rate is a bank to bank rate.
I do overseas TTs all the time and my bank takes a premimum. The actual amount depends on the banks selling/buying rate. The same applies for credit card charges.
One way I get around it is to maintain foreign currency accounts and pass money between them when the bank's apprporite selling/buying rate is favorable...

Perhaps, instead of sending THB, just send in USD and let the local banks here use their local exchange rates. I used to get my funds that way.

I always send in USD or Sterling depending on what account I am sending from and I always get a very good rate. Never send in Thai Baht or you will pay your home banks exchange rate which will always be heavily in thier favour. Same as buying Baht in UK or US. Thay rape you on the exchange rate.

Thank you BK. I wanted to know exactly what you have said. If I use a US based ATM card, I will get around 35.50 ( besides all those fees). The same is true for cashing US 100 dollar bills.
Now for my curiosity, I would like to know when somebody gets the ofshore rate? Is it when a person is wiring money from outside thailand to a thai bank? Any other situation? Thanks

for those with enough investments, take a look at Schwab
they have a bank now, the bank issues a debit card.. I use it a lot in Bkk and they dont' charge any fees for it and I have always gotten a very good rate.. damn near the interbank rate..
per schwab they take no markup on the deal.. so you get their rate.. and so far this seems to be true..
I used to use a WAMU ATM card and got dinged for a fee plus the exchange rate was worse than schwab.. did a few on the same day to check it out..

I use my credit union ATM Check Card (a debit visa card) and I get good exchange rate, no ATM fees and only 1% Visa charge (that is what visa charges for currency converson)

Was watching CNBC yesterday where they interviewed a Thai woman financial person. She seems to believe that the Thai bank might lower interest rate next month to counter the rising baht. Of course I am all for that since I am getting killed using dollar. It has depreciated 16% last year against the Thai baht. Thanks to our rising deficit (God knows how much for IRAQ) and low interest rate the dollar is depreciating against even the Filipino pesos. You know you are screwed when the Filipino peso is gaining on you. Thank you Mr. President for sticking your cock up our asses.

Not a pretty picture for those using $USD or those pegged to it such as $HK. But in fact, an even uglier picture for our Japanese friends.
Using figures from Oanda, this is the depreciation against the Thai Baht of some main currencies in the year ending today:
Japanese Yen down 15.67%
US dollar down 13.67%
Australian dollar down 9.05%
Euro down 6.08%
Lots of headaches and nose bleeds in soi Thaniya these days.
