To come back to the original question posed by BK ,
At the risk of taking coals to Newcastle , may I emphasise the following :-
(1) Girls whom you are planning on sponsoring have different levels of need/want depending on their background , what they are working as (Bar Girl or Oil Massage or TTM or Soapy Massage or Freelancer , etc. ) , what their current problems and needs are (building a home , sending money home , etc. ) , what their current life style is , where they are going to live (in Bangkok , in their hometown , in a village , in a town , etc. ).
(2)Girls who work in the entertainment business are basically in it for the money so if you are giving her a monthly amount that is not what she considers suffecient then she is likely to moonlight .
(3)For all the love that we may profess for them , the girls are very wary of comitting themselves to any one foreigner UNLESS HE MARRIES HER AND SETTLES HERE WITH HER OR TAKES HER TO LIVE WITH HIM IN HIS COUNTRY . Because of this they keep their options open .
Keeping the above 3 points in mind I suggest :-
(a) If you are only trying to help out a girl whom you are not too serious about and about whom you are not going to be jealous - then give her whatever amount you think fit as she will be most probably supplementing it with other income .
(b) If you are really serious about any girl and would be possessive about her then either marry her and keep her with you OR if you are unable to marry her then FIRSTLY determine whether you are truly in love with her and that you want to make a long term relationship , SECONDLY determine ( to the best that you can ) if she has some feelings for you which can be built into love , THIRDLY try and find out all the points mentioned in (1) & (2) above , FOURTHLY if she is not from Bangkok convince her to move to her hometown (you can visit her there OR she can come down to Bangkok whenever you are here ) , FIFTHLY based on the above work out what would be a comfortable amount to live on WITHOUT LOSING FACE , SIXTHLY try and get her to start some business which will keep her occupied and also gradually make your relationship less dependent on money and more about love & SEVENTHLY try and keep in regular contact with her either by phone or E-Mail and while doing this get involved in every aspect of her life by giving advice .
Using the above I am sponsoring one girl in a Tambon in the North at B10,000 per month and another in Chiang-Mai at B17,000 per month . Both consider me their husband and I am confidant will never look at another man for all the money in the world . Both have started their own businesses ( agricultural in one case & trading in the other ) and by my calculation they should be financially independent in 2 years time .

Yes , you did read correctly - and since that quote was taken from my post I would like to take you up on this issue .
"Song" has now stayed 'with me' for over 6 years and "Nong" has 'stayed with me' for over 2 years .
As I have offered earlier , if the Administrator permits I will obtain permission from these 2 girls and then give you their current addresses and telephone numbers . You can then try any trick in the book ( or even those outside the book ) like offering huge sponsor amounts , or using your handsome and charming attributes , or promising to marry them and take them to your home country , etc . - and you can do all this without any prior warning and in your own time .
Then when you are done with your attempts , you can make an FR on whether you succeeded or not .
The result will definitely change the finality of your opinions on the subject .

O dear, have I upset someone.
Why do you feel you have to go to such great lengths to prove youself. If your happy whats the problem.
What ever I said or say there will always be exceptions to the rule.
It's just we all see it so many times, blokes sending money ladies lying and f_cking about.
I just think for overall advice to anyone thinking about it, should be don't send any.
Four days ago I was talking to a bar girl when her 'boyfriend' from england rang. She let me listen to the call while he and she where talking. He was saying how much he loved her, and if he had sent enough money this month. He was also talking about leaving his wife for this girl who he said he trusted.
At this point she asked me to finger her while she was talking, cause the bloke got on her nerves. She thought it was so funny having this man tell her how much he loved her, while having someone elses finger up her. When he said blow me a kiss, she wanted the noise to come from me and her kissing.
This has nothing to do with me. She would have done the same with whoever she was talking to at the time. She was just taking the bloke for as much as she could, and good luck to her for it. I've no problem with the girls getting as much as they can from mugs who send it.
While I believe your story, and we all have storys to tell , good or bad. I would bet any amount of money my story is alot, and a mean alot more commen.
Like I said I think the most important advice any one can have when comeing here is don't send money, save it and spend it when you get here. You'll have a better time.

Yes ,
I did get upset - but not for the reasons implied by you .
I get upset when people make general sweeping statements about BG's because my experience has been so good that I feel it is unfair to the BG's that we prejudice everyone against them .
Maybe if you had couched your opinion in less sweeping terms I may not have got so upset .
Anyway , I have to say that going by the majority of posters I find that those who are here to stay don't seem to have any problem whereas the majority of those who fly in and fly out do have problems .
And to that extent your advice is right - but again without the sweeping generalisation .

My advice was meant for those who fly in and out, cause they are the only ones who can phyisicaly send money.
Those of us who live here seem to have no problem.
I'm not knocking bar girls. I'm glad that i have many bar girls that I can call my friend, and i've found them to be some of the nicest people on the planet. To be honest if I ever went back to england, I would be totally lost without them.
Sorry if I offended you, though my 1st bit of advice I will always give to friends when they come for a holiday is, don't send money.
I said this on other threads, people seem to feel sorry for them, thats why they do it, but I don't see many people feeling sorry for the girls who work for department stores e.g. Robbinsons. Who earn about 3500/4000 a month. Not much is ever said about them.
I think I'm gonna go to robbinsons tomorrow, find a girl who isnt also on the game and just give her 3000bht for nothing. Been thinking about these girls a lot lately. All we seem to talk about is bar girls cause they give us sex. there are other girls in Thailand.
Like I said before though I'm not knocking bar girls, I do love them so much.
