i was really mysterfied by your post.
you changed £1000 and got 68,000 baht?,seemed a lot to me.
you said you previously got 63,000 for £1000?.
a big difference.
i looked at the latest exchange rates and saw £1000 was 68,000 baht and then realised you may have made a typo.
did you mean 6 months ago you got 66,000 baht?.
that is what i was getting,an increase of 5,000 baht in 6 months seemed very excessive to me.
would be a huge devalution of the baht if what you say is true.

I think spider's numbers are right. It is the strength of the pound right now that is the biggest factor.

i have never got less then 66,000 baht in exchange for £1000.
wether it be hotel,exchange booth or ATM.
sometimes i change £100 and if they only gave me 6,300,i would be pounding on the window.
OK only 300 baht,but that can buy a lot in LOS.

I think it matters if spider exchanged for the baht at the same place both times, or at a different place each time. Different places may have different spreads, i.e. the first place may have charged a wider spread for a bigger profit.
