US$ Vs Thai Baht 32.50, so yet again the Baht is strengthening even against a slightly firmer US$, especially against the Yen.
Don't stress help is on its way,, Vietnam is taking large pieces of the Thai export market and growing at a MASSIVE rate ( I know others have laughed at my thinking Vietnam as a tough competitor for Thailand ) but look at some of these stats up till 2004 http://www.mekongcapital.com/mr_exp.htm
Things will get interesting later this year as the high Baht really starts to hurt exports and tourism.

Oh, by all means, you are right on target with that prediction - at least the Chinese are smart enough to shift some of their manufacturing to Vietnam, and then export back to the west, multiplying their profits, and the west continues to be dumb enough buying from them.
Vietname is up and coming, though not overnight - but will certainly propvide competition in certain industries to Thailand.

You state certain Thai industries,,, lets say ALL THE MAJOR Thai exports areas.
Lets just look at a few,, Textiles and Rice. And then diverse into more tech product such as Electronics/computer and components.
Vietnams exports in 2001 Vs 2005
2001 Textiles US$1975 million 2005 US$4060 million
2001 Rice US$3720 million 2005 US$ 5202 million
Electronic components etc, 2001 US$709,,,,,2005 US$1442 million
These where the pre Thai Baht CRAZY days,, ( 1/1/2006 a Thai Baht was worth 388 Viet dong,, TODAY a Thai baht is worth 492 Viet Dong) giving a 34% plus further trading advantage because of currency pricing.
Add this medium sized competition to that growing from India and Thailand needs to rapidly change and I doubt that is likely under a military government that has done more back=flips than a circus performer. The major slowing in toursim because of the Baht strength will aslo weigh heavily.
Basically the Thai Baht at todays prices is a shot Duck
( no offence to you Daffy).

USD now at 32.50, fluctuates by the minute. Never mind the ATM (International Conversion Rates) cost, it is more like 30 once the cash comes out.

I think you are looking at the rate of purchase in the states and not in Thailand.
