Important to remember that on-shore and off-shore rates are different. Always send money in local currency and get it converted in Thailand ( can get up to 8-10% better).

Maco88, I sent across some money about 2 weeks ago,, converted rate AFTER comission was 27.6 BAHT.
Quite a difference from converting this end ( i.e sending Baht). That way it would have probably been around 23 BAHT.

The Thai interest rates were lowered yesterday another 50 basis points to 3.5% to try and stimulate spending. The Bank now is taking a "neutral" position (i.e.: wait and see approach). Investors are expecting another rate decrease in 2008, maybe earlier as elections approach (when is that??)
IMHO, I think the outside excharge rate at 32.8 Baht has to be abolished and the Thai Government, whether elected or not, should get that stopped. The inside exchange rate is 34.8 baht, the correct rate, (and I am still waiting for a monger to go to the exchange rate kiosks at The Emporium and post what it is against the US Dollar. I want to know if they are doing inside or outside exchange rates). We really cannot have 2 exchange rates for one currency.
They also have to print much more cash than they have now. Maybe a new 1000 baht note to ward off counterfeiters, as an idea. Maybe create a 5000 baht note!

Actually, if there was a single rate it would likely settle at around the 32.8 rate. The internal 34.8 rate is artificial and would never hold in market trading.

Exchange Rate USD/THB
For the last few weeks, I have noticed a big difference in the USD/THB exchange rate between Bangkok Bank rate and Yahoo rate. While as per Yahoo, THB have continued to strengthen in the last past few weeks from 34 to 32/32.50, the rate offered at Bangkok Bank have remained pretty the same at 34.70-80. I send monthly bank transfers overseas and have remained stable.
USD/THB at Bangkok Bank: 34.70 (for TT) on May 25, 2007
USD/THB at Yahoo: 32.52 (for TT) on May 25, 2007

What can explain such a big difference? Both rates are supposed to be "customer's rate" not inter-bank rates.
