Geez,
I guess I must be "kee neow mahk mahk." When visiting my TGF this last September, we both ate for about 100 Baht total per day. The neighborhood Isaan markets sell everything really cheaply, so you can buy a bunch of things at 5 Baht each (that's 20 food items for 100 Baht) and eat pretty well. Streetside, kao neow is only 5 Baht, water 5 Baht per liter (vending machine dispenser). So it can be done. Not sure I'd want to do this everyday of my life, but this is normal for her, and certainly a learning experience for me. Makes it hard to come back to the States and pay 200 Baht just for a cup of expresso.

Damned right he's wealthy! In his time, and his posts, and sharing and replies and commitment. Sounds to me like your jealous BigDUSA that's all I'm hearing. Now ABC is embarrased. That's a damned shame. I don't care what anyones net worth is here or what they pull down a year. I want to know what they did with their time and what they experienced.
I'd be willing to wager, that if there is any one thing which could be agreed upon by all members regarding our playground it is that LOS, BKK in particular, are a CAPITALIST's playground. Money talks, censorship balks! We wouldn't be doing what we're doing if we were paupers. So what if he is wealthy? There's no caste or 'hi-so' here. There's a common interest. And you just dis'd one of the most social members. Ý Ý
Uriah Heep was a pretty humble guy too. Darned good at letting everyone know it too. But as the story turned out he was also the guy toting the heaviest baggage. ÝIt 'is' your opinion that ABC likes letting everyone know he's wealthy. It's also off base IMO. He put up a budget and it's padded. So get over it.
ABC you're a great host and a charismatic brother, whom I envy, not for where you go or how often you go, but for how much you engage the brothers in your posts and how you follow thru with all or them and how conversant you make it seem. Please don't cave into such pouting and censor yourself. ÝÝ

ABC has clearly stated that he does not spend it all and likes to have money left over. He jokingly said unless you're like me and spend it all (IMO) Correct me if i'm wrong ABC. So wether that budget suits anyone else taste or not should'nt matter here. More people can share theirs and any newbie can do an average on it. I've met ABC in person and think he's a stand up level headed man. I'm sure he knows what he's doing with his Money!!! Let me assure you all that he's not a Japanese prick whatever that is. Myself, i've spent a a $1000 US in two days there, and sometimes $500 US in three. Just depends on the current goings on. I'm by no means rich and work physically hard for what I have. Therefore I save whatever it is i'll spend and spend it as I see fit. I take money home or where ever i'm going next so what's the big deal.
I think you miss the point too.
The point of the forum and the point of posting a budget is to communicate information. What info has ABC communicated with his $200 a day food budget? That one line item on his "budget" is completely worthless as he will never, ever come close to hitting that amount. It is totally misleading.
If I were new to Thailand and trying to plan my budget I would look at that number and wince. After all, I want to eat at decent restaurants (not on the street) and I want to bring a girl with me. So maybe if I don't have appetizers I can cut it down to only $150 a day? Wow, I think I'll only go to Bkk for a week instead of two if it's that expensive just for a decent meal.
A budget is useless unless you describe how you're spending it. If ABC says that the $200 is because he is eating at the Oriental every damn day or buying exotic expensive asian dishes, then I don't have a problem with that.
But creating a "budget" that is two or three times what you actually spend is an exercise in self-delusion.
Trick is for a newbie coz ya hav'nt learned yet is to over budget as far as ya can so ya dont get caught short...
This is not what you want to do. You want to know the real costs of things so you can budget properly. If you're doubling your food budget unnecessarily that means your budget elsewhere will suffer. It is sensible to have a decent amount of cash to cover unknown or emergency expenses, but you never know where those will come from.

I didn't see where BigD had a problem with ABC having a little money, quite the opposite in fact. All he said was that ABC does seem to go out of his way to let that be known and I agree with him. It's not obnoxious enough to irritate me, but it is noticeable.

IMHO, its nice to enjoy find dinning!! but it alos depends whos yr dinning date. no point bring date to a french restaurant, order pate, lobster bisque, cavair and she assume the sorbet before the maincourse is the dessert! then all these fine dinning goes to waste!!!
