I can access my UK bank from almost any ATM with a limit of 20,000 B per day
I also have a account with Thai Military bank that allows 2 X 20,000 (40,000) per day
So I can get up to 60 grand in one day - enough for 10 beers, 2 woman and the Tuk Tuk fare in Patong (just)

Most ATMs allow you to withdraw 20,000 at a time (don't use the Fast Cash option though), choose Withdraw Other Amounts. However, you can always withdraw as much as your Bank allows you, my friend on his HSBC account in HongKong lets him take up to 100,000 B a day, he said he managed to get take out 200,000 B once, but that was before.
I use Bank of Asia, and they allow me 40,000 B/day on weekdays and 80,000 B/day during weekends, not that I have that much money to spend!

I use ATMs all the time. I am wondering if the banks charge you a service charge? And how much do they take?

69er, the banks definitely charge you for using their ATMs. That's how the make money. If you have a local bank account in Bangkok, the charge is 3 B for interbank transactions. If your account is in another province, it is 20 B per transaction. I have no idea what the rate is for foreign banks, check your bank statement when you get back from Bangkok. You will definitely see a small charge.

Last trip I used both cc for purchases and debit card at ATM's
I checked statements and the debit charge exchange rates were poorer than the cc rates. So although I was not directly charged as a separate item for using ATM's the exchange rate sure said I was .

Slightly off the beaten track here guys, but check your CC statements for a while when you get home.
A couple of months after my last trip to Bkk my CC was refused in the UK. Somewhat alarmed I checked through to find that about £5k ($7,500) had been "spent" on the internet (Phillipino sites) on electrical goods, phones etc. My bank immediatley refunded the money and (apparently) have caught the perpetrator - though they will only tell me who it is if a conviction is secured.
The bank have informed me the fraud emanates from Phuket, not BKK, but be careful.
I ONLY use a CC for purchases from shops etc (use a DD card for cash, small purchases) and the only major purchase I made in Phuket was in a (respectable) jewellery shop.
Another thing to watch out for is over-ringing. I signed for a puchase in the Photo-developing place in Emporium @ about 400 baht - the credit card transaction went through at 11,000. It could have been my mistake at source but I do think I would have spotted the "difference" in price even if I could have missed a couple of noughts being added.
Incidentaly, when I reported the fraud to my credit card, they asked, without prompting, if I had visited Thailand recently - seems like they know something we dont!!??

Do I understand that the ususal of more for U.S. 100's
over Traveler checks is still in place.
As to bank cards I think that most will find that an ATM card will have a small fee v Credit Cards/Debit Cards with MC/Visa logo... So when oyu head out bring an ATM card since that needs a pin and can't be used for retail(in most cases) making it much more safer.
I have used my CC's for probably 50,000USD and no frauds... Carefully used I should have said...No bar tabs. MP's, S.T. Hotels etc..... Dept Stores, Big C, Tesco Lotus, Hard Rock Cafe, places at World Trade Center in BKK and that type only.
