Interesting comments on salary levels.
My TG is now working in an internet cafe in Pattaya, which is great because we chat via microphone and webcam.
She is proud as punch at having a real job, and was quick to inform me that I must see her at the new job on my return to LOS. She is very keen to make a better impression.
But man does she do it tough, 12 hours each day and 30 days each month she informs me. On top of this she also attends English classes........phew!!!!
I don't know what she earns but I suspect not a great deal.

Internet cafes typically pay about 200 B/day, that's normally for 8 hours. Since your TG is working 12 hours, she could be getting perhaps 300 B/day. A good boss may be giving her 10,000 B/month.

As we all know salaries are relative to what you know and produce from experience and training but not least to where you live and economic supply and demand.
Worldwide Corporations know this well and will move offshore any labor and materials cheaper to lessen cost and will sell at rip off prices everywhere.
Programmers are bein outsourced to India cause in USA they make a killing, but overthere people are willing to make ends meet.
Face it !! If we dont have a silver spoon we gotta bust ass for a little extra comfort and retirement living.
Stress levels at my workplace are sky high and we are the biggest and best at what we do. Hence life should be easier but it aint. No wonder why people scale down to live a simplier happier life in Thailand.

It's a RARE English teacher in LOS who gets 35,000 baht without supplementing with private lessons. Work is 5 1/2 or 6 days, typically paying 20-25,000 inBKK, and a LOT less elsewhere in Thailand...AUA pays 235 baht per TEACHING hour, and schedules often consist of 5 teaching hours per day, over a 10-12 hour period! And they are considered to pay well.
University lecturers have it even worse...

There is a common fallacy that everything is much cheaper in Thailand. Some of this is comparing apples and oranges. Someone may state that they can buy a house upcountry for 15K. Well you can also buy a house in the back woods of Arkansas, but who would want to live there. The same goes for upcountry Thailand. If you want to live in the boonies then you can live very cheaply.
Yes you can live on 100 badt for food a day, but soup, rice, vegtables a very little meat get boring after a while.
I am in the process of compiling a long list of living expenses of what it costs in BKK versus CA, USA. You would be surprise how many things are the same or more expensive. I will probably have this list done by the end of the year and I will share it with the bros.
Yes you can find an apartment for 5K a month, but do most people want to live in one room (ceiling fan only)?
The items that are definitely cheap are:
>Food usually 50% across the board i.e. 5-Star vs 5 Star, Groceries vs. Groceries.
>Taxis
>Medical services usually 10% of USA costs.
> No Property Taxes on Houses
> Car Registration per year very cheap
>Gas is a little cheaper
Some items that are the same:
>Dry Cleaning & laundry (Don't understand this one at all)
>Cable TV
>Houses & Condos within BKK
>Car Insurance
Some of the items that are liitle more:
>Electricity
>Phone Charges (Local calls 3 badht = 7 cents per minute USD, you can get 5 cents per minute in USA
>Electronic Items..TV,VCR's Appliances
Some of the items that are a lot more:
Car Purchases
So if you want to drastically change your live style from the USA to Thailand and live like a monk, then you can survive on teachers salaries.
Otherwise, have a big nest egg or a good job on USA salary levels if you want to maintain the same level of lifestyle.
Oh yes, one more thing that is definitely cheaper TG's

20-25, Baht a month is not a lot even in LOS. No paying for women too much ???

Most English teachers have the opportunity to supplement their income with tutoring, private lessons, and school-supplied overtime, but basic salaries are as I stated.
