How many members of the forum have had a bar girl steal from them???
In 10 years & countless BGs, all of twice. One took only a portable CD player. In the other case. It wasn't technically theft, but she took me for B1,500. Both were young-starlet-high-on-yaba types, of a kind I now studiously avoid for other reasons.
Well worth taking such trivial losses on the chin, imho, because you will pay a lot more for it if you treat all BGs like potential thieves and rip-off artists (which they most certainly are not). If your BG sees you guarding every last B500 with your life, she may well feel insulted and is entitled to be. Don't then expect her to put herself out for you.
LOS is not the Land of Scams. Tourists everywhere get targeted by small-time crims for the obvious reason that they are usually at sea in a strange environment and therefore vulnerable. Same thing happens in London all the time. Ý

mm3, BigDUSA's second post had nothing to do with BG's. Did you read it? It had to do with 12K USD in fraudulent credit card charges.
His 3rd post did mention BG's, but that was after someone else had raised the BG theft issue in this thread. Anyway, who cares? If he wants to hide his money in his safe, that's his business.

Last holiday l had two thousand stolen by the cleaning lady who managed to search very thoroughly through my bag and take two thousand from a pile of ten and thought i wouldn't notice it.
I blame myself for losing that money as you shouldn't leave temptation in peoples way.
When a lot of Thais only make a thousand baht a week it must be very tempting to steal .
I believe it is better not to leave money lying around although i often do and i also think you should leave valuables in the safe.
As for credit cards i do not have one and so when i come to Thailand i bring some cash , travellers checks and an ATM card and leave them all along with my passport in the safe and just carry around 5k-10k baht .
That has served me well over the years.
As for being ripped off by BG's I cannot remember any specific instances although memory is not so good due to high alcoholic intake but usually they will get more out me by hanging around than they would by a one hit sting.

This month will be my 4th trip to BKK over the past 2 years - 
Never had a problem with theft ñ then I never tempt BGís by leaving valuables in sight. The room safe works wonders!
Agree with BIGDÖ.never tell your BG you are leaving the next day!

I should have added that the guys who were ripped off by the BG had 25K and 35K taken. From what I understand and this is a story told to me the guys were leaving the next moring to go home.
I don't throw it in the girls face that I don't trust them. I'm subtle, when they go take a shower that's when I put away my wallet except for the 1K that Iwill pay them. The money is minor but the hassle of replacing my ATM, credit cards, passport from 10K miles from home.

I have never had any probs, but as BigDUSA says keep all major stuff in safe... I only ever use ATM's but take a couple of credit cards just in case....
I also make a habit of putting there money out on the table while they are in the shower and leave a few hundred (some times more) on the bed side table.....
I never have had anyone take anything, but if they did whats the worse that they could take a few hundred Baht so what! In fact I leave it there on purpose to test them...... Or they will steal there own money! Some times they ask for taxi fare which is ok by me....
But I have to admit to doing something crazy last trip, BF this girl I had only known her a couple of hours I gave her my hotel room key as she was tired while I sat in the bar and watched england play football!!!
Again the only thing she could have done was steal all my clothes (so what!) as all rest of stuff in safe behind reception...... but guess what when I went back she was lying naked in bed watching MTV.... Only in LOS......

Little paranoia, little precaution goes a long way. ÝI'm more concerned about pickpockets than about BG theft although I've had a-gogo BG's warn me about FL's. ÝBut I think the biggest risk is on the street, in crowds, as it is anywhere.Ý It's more the hassle of getting things replaced.
