RTBs and others who comment on Issaan girls ought to look at a map of Thailand its the poor northeast side, not where I was on the Chiang Rai south side (northwest) This thread was about 2 million being enough or not?
I say yes.
I started 3 small businesses on less than half that.
And though sure I screwed up my relationship (with an excellent Thai woman) we remain friends, and the $14,000 I dropped on the house isnt a lesson, its the screwing the realtionship that was.
There are many nice country girls (some educated)
These guys in Bangkok have absloutely no idea on things.
The failure and so called what not to do book they say I wrote in the 7 months there wasnt a failure at all.
The girls family still runs those businesses, and dutifully forward on my share 50,000 a month.
Enough to live uncountry.
Reality is I have daughters in Australia and having ruined the relationship came home.
I still had $9000 in the bank and income.
I also sold an escort business in Pattaya for $5000.
I inherited a house (but wont sell it for at least 10 years)
I do know actually how to survive in Thailand.
Bars in Pattaya is not an option I can tell you.
Small businesses are small risk (small profit) but reliable.
I dont advice others to buy a house with a Thai woman.
But do so if you know them well.
She is actually paying in 10,000 a month to repay her half share. (the land was hers) so everythings cool.
Truth is I didnt flee Thailand broke.
And English teachers make 25,000 baht or less a month (again not an option) I thought about staying but listerned to my kids beg me to come home so did.
#3 visits later, I have met a new young Chiang Mai girl and decided to take her to Oz on a 3 month tourist visa.
What you guys should be reading into here is what happens to guys who move and live in that rat hole (bangkok) they are the ones always throwing shit and biting like the sewer rats that they are. (nothings off limits, dead fathers, you name it)
But back on thread, I am telling you that the north is very cheap, as is housing and businesses.
50,000 a month is a comfortable lifestyle there.
Beauty salons RBT are a good investment north.
Woman love to go and chat to girls get hairdos, nails etc it just clicks over.
The noodle store feeds cops, lunch workers, transport guys, and other store owners, it also works.
Rents are 2000 a week in down town Phan.
The internet gets dozens of game addicted kids, and thai woman emailing each other and the low long lost hopefuls.
In all, the north is a very cheap alternative.
No one here shaking their heads, can say otherwise.
I did it and succeeded. The very fact I still get my income is proof. Sure its a small return on 3 businesses, but it works.
Trick is in Thailand to take one bite out the elephant at a time......Not go massive and loose.
Ask the Pattaya guys about Bars and success.

Its beautiful and there are many so called poor professional bank girls that will come a running.
Ps Chiang mai /Chaing Rai side look down on Issaaan people....... (because they eat dog) and also are not as religious....Up in the north kissing in public brings a fine.
So get at least the geography right guys before claiming to be equiped to make believe you have a clue about living north west Thailand.
Bangkok is just the sewer where the bucks are.
real Thais north are lovely people.
Go find a decent girl there and see........This dirt poor issan girl mentality these Bangkok Guys are trying to pictch is way off beam.......You invariably will meet lots of woman professional or not who are bright, and attractive. Remember Chiang Mai hosts a university and many graduates simply go get bank jobs in their towns, but earn 9000 baht a month.
They may be avoiding the Bright lights, and have no Farang contact, but they arent stupid.
When your transferring funds in their bank Their bright little eyes light up, and the female charm turns on.
Its not Pattaya or bangkok where Farangs are viewed as dickwits by them on mass.
Its the country, rural areas, where Farangs simply dont pass by often. This is an hours drive out out ChianG Rai.
The whole experience of little rural towns repeats itself over and over.
Farang comes to town, girls all want to know for how long, and maybe have lunch/dinner "'up to you"
This good girl /bad girl little idea peddalled here by some is transcended by the fact that an overwhelming amount of Thai woman in remote areas, from professional university educated girls, down to farm workers, want a shot at getting a farang.
Common sense even suggests that the ones that eventually make the hard decesion, to go to Bangkok would love the oppurtunity that a farang arrivving in their town brings (prior to going)
Before my girl made it clear to all that I was hers, I felt like elvis daily. From the gas pump girl....Yahama girl, bank girl, shopgirl, Market girls, paper girl. kodak girl, Farm girls,...etc
They just are poor.
Woman even on 9000 a month, and thats bank standard woman, know hitching on to you means better.
But the naturalness and total willingness to do so means that its clear woman can Manipulate without effort.
Getting them at the source (where many spring from) or better those that werent going to go, and have jobs, is really rewarding.
Theres no Farangs in the picture, they have a job $$$$ less or no sponsership, and the chances are you can, quietly get visas alot more easy for them.
Pattaya and Bangkok all have their Value, but its lets face it, a sex value.
Scoring 20 year old babes who are finishing uni in a year.
Or some bank teller, even innocent shop girl, all make delightful affairs of the heart.
But my advice is to play it straight as they are lovely, as when you betray them they really hurt (i did this)
North is a beautiful magic story for the guy looking for a serious babe that hasnt had a mile of dick yet.
Sure there are many in Bangkok like that....but not as innocent.

Actually DG only the lowest paid, up country teachers make 25k a month. I have a mate in CM making just that including accommodation and he saved enough in 1 year for a trip to Europe.
You don't need 50k up country to live comfortably, nor Bangkok for that matter as long as you have a missus, ie not paying for beaver.
Despite what I read on this forum, it ain't difficult for a farang to find a job in Thailand. The difficult part is staying away from the bars and making contacts before your money runs out.
Once you have a job and a network in Bangkok, you are pretty set for life, give or take 1 or 2 lean years.
