am i reading this right...1000-1200 U.S. DOLLARS/month rent in bkk!?!  can anyone please confirm what i've read is correct. just want to make sure whether or not i need to pay a visit to the eye doctor.

Oh, you can pay 100,000-250,000 baht a month in Bangkok if you are the sort of farang that Thais believe in (rich and stupid).
Or you can rent a townhouse or a single house for 10,000-15,000 a month if you are smart and know where to look.
Or just ask me: the Wattachak tabloid classified in Thai. You will need the help of a Thai friend to go through them, that's all.
IGNORE anything in the Post or the Nation as these ads are aimed entirely at the Rich & Stupid market (or the corporate/government subsidized market.)
I have followed this policy for 10 years+ and it has kept me in good cheap houses all that time. Never even bothered with a townhome.

i had a TG call the centre point for me and they knocked 20% off the listed internet price for a 6 month lease, and they knew i was farang...
i think i will stay there until i am savvy enough to find out where i truly wish to live....

Xrobbo,same here....6000 for nice appartment near Rachathewi,100-150 for food.Sex for free,all the money going for parting.Triyng to find some job,still unlucky.I say if you living arround Pattanakan for example or Chinatown,even 25000 is enough.

Kmanrox, pls tell me about the high speed Net access at Centrepoint. What do they mean by high speed? 56K twisted pair that really comes in at 31-33K?
The only high speed access I know of is CS's satellite broadband, which is still receive only for satellite, outgoing traffic is still twisted pair. This would require a satellite dish for every apartment, which seems unlikely. This service is still little known here and even less used. It costs 10,000 baht to set up.
I hear you (feel your pain!) about needing good Net access, I run two businesses over the Net and do so on twisted pair (regular phone lines) and in Thailand this sucks. But I would advise you to closely investigate what Centrepoint actually has, lest you be disappointed after the ink is on the lease.

Unlike CJ, I don't know shit about the Net, let alone doing business on it.
I do know that he is correct about the rarity of what you seek in Thailand and I know that Centerpoint does not have it (unless it is a very new development.)
I was not all that impressed by Centepoint in general when I spent a couple nights there.
The best thing I could say is (as someone else mentioned) despite it's intimidating lobby there was no problem bringing 2 young BGs with me.
Bottom line kman, with the kind of money you have (and are apparently eager to spend) you can do MUCH better.

i will stay there for a couple of days, see how i like it, and also do research and tour the other recommendations for serviced apartments as recommended in this thread

That's good news. Sounds like they would have to employ a full time sysops to keep the intranet up and running though, but, do keep us informed of how the Internet access works out, and what sort of actual data rates that you experience.
I just use a dedicated (not leased) line, one of the three that this house came with. Another is just voice and the third is voice and fax. If and when I get the one way satellite access set up I'll let you all know how that works out, maybe by then it will be full duplex. My present ISP is decent enough by local standards, which are spotty as all of us know I am sure.
