Some of these families have huge debt!!
Of course, this situation of them using the money for good and not just spending it on junk is one in the minority.

Dont get me wrong if some rich woman wanted to send me 4 times the average monthly wage I would not complain.

I think many ðsponsorships seems to be because of "ownership". As in, I pay your bills so you are mine and when I visit BKK I can have you any time I want. And when I'm not here you are still mine type of attitude.
I've sponsorted before and , I will never sponsor again.

I believe that Pinga and BK said it best. Sponsorship is not just about the money, but also about the time. IF you can ðIf you can only spend the money and not the time then really don't sponsor.
Yeah, the females liike the money, but also the company.
In my opinion:
if someone really wants to help them out, then paying them money to sit at home and not work is not the answer. This is kinda what I did. And ... it did nto work. As soon as the money stopped, she went straight back to work. Edcucation, as well as providiing a way that the females can make money but not be in the sex business is the only true way to help them out. Short of marrying them.

ABC, that is a very cynical way of looking at sponsorship. Rather than calling it "ownership" call it an "exclusive contract." If both parties enter into it freely and with full knowledge, then both should have no complaints.
A sponsor has no obligation to keep the girl happy other than by paying her on time and he certainly doesn't have to be concerned with her future. She is primarily responsible for herself, if he chooses to help then that is up to him.
If the guy expects her to sit in her room all day and wait for him, then he is being a little naive. If he expects a BG to go out and find decent, wholesome ways of entertaining herself on her own, not to mention trying to educate herself for his future, then he is being stupid.

The ironic thing is that it's generally more expensive to be idle than to be working. If you work all the time it keeps you from spending money. Just sitting around, gotta get some food, maybe go to the mall and look at some flash clothes, cell phone and bills for talking all the time with friends. That adds up. If you work the 8-5, 6 days a week, normally too tired to do much more than eat some food, watch a little television and then pop into bed.
If (and it's IF) I sponsored a girl she would either need to prove to me that she was in school full time or working in "legit" work full time, or back in Ban Nok. Otherwise it just can't work.

I think that the reason you are seeing sponsorship amounts at 20,000 and higher is that the sponsorship amount tends to be either based on replacing what they were making in the game, covering their expenses- which may include ðdebt, etc. and/or a set amount-- for some reason I hear guys just throw out numbers of 40, 50, 75, 100, thousand ð(I am not sure how they get there, some sort of industry standard?). ðUnder any of the scenarios, one is basically setting the amount high enough so that, in theory, there should be no pressing financial incentive to step out on the sponsor. ðAnd whether you think of it as a form of ownership or exclusivity, I think the points most people would agree on is that the girl is supposed to stay out of the game AND not have a boyfriend (Although some guys just might want to get serviced when they are in town. ðThe motivations of every single sponsor are beyond me.) ðDoesn't seem to work that way in practice. ðThe consideration does not seem to be what ðthey might be able to live on comfortably individually. ðSo could they live on 12,000 like greg's gf does on her salary? ðIMHO, the point is that many either can not (ex. debt)or just do not want to have the reduced lifestyle. ðAnd for these, a sponsorship of say 10,000 just guarantees that they continue in the game at some level for the extra earn.

Enjoyed all the commentray in this latest go-round on sponsorship. A quick look at back posts will tell you what I'm spending. Everything said and done, I can't disagree with much that's said here. My TGF keeps a spreadsheet budget (she took a bookkeeping class recently) and we go over the numbers when I am there. She is very proud of her ability to do this -- a real step up from where she was before.
But you are all correct: unless you plan to marry the lady at some point, you have to dig deep to decide about the sponsorship thing. If a TGF just sits at home, "so she won't have to work in the sex industry," then the money is being spent for philanthropy, after everything is said and done.
And I do believe that, mostly, it's the ladies who really benefit from sponsorship, and that most farangs are doing so because of conflicted emotions. So I don't demonize the ladies -- which is why I laughed uproariously at Pack's sarcasm about the lightweight Plasma TV. Hey, they are getting away with it!
But some of us do it because we work closely with the ladies, and may actually put together a future with them. Yeah, it's frought with frustration and issues, but what relationship isn't? My TGF expects to marry me and live happily ever after -- it was one of her stated goals in working at the go-go bar: to snag a farang like me. So I'm happily flailing on the end of the hook. Maybe if it digs too deep into my chin, I'll wise up. ;)
But in the end, she has responsibilities: family up north, finishing her GED, her son, and so on. And she is old enough to feel obligation to those in a responsible way. I wouldn't sponsor anyone younger than her, because I'm not convinced they would be old enough to know much about life and relationships. Hell, at 20, I didn't really know jack. So it would be really naive of me to think they do. And to entrust them with my money.
So, hey, sponsor if you must, but stay rational about it. And be prepared for cmore's proverbial other shoe dropping. More often than not, it will.

I think Thai women are beautiful but the hearts of hardened pros are so ugly (to me).
Don't ask me where I'm going with this.....I'm already jetlagged thinking about landing in Don Muang in a week!

This sponsorship thing is outta hand.I cannot believe guys sending not just little bits of money but huge amounts to their TG's.Why?I don't understand.
It is in essence a de facto ownership attempt that is doomed to fail.
These TG's survived before you came along and will no doubt continue to survive when you decide to stop sponsoring.I don't blame the girls for this for if someone was gullible enough to send money to me for nothing why wouldn't i take it.For them it is a long long time barfine without the hassle of sex.Perfect!!!!
I have never been asked by TG's to send money to them and from time to time i have had girls that i came back to or mailed regularly not one of these girls ever asked me to send them money and i never volunteered.Many guys set themselves up by deciding on their own bat to send money to women that they have known for a few days or a best a few weeks.
The girls do not respect these guys.They think they are stupid and do not believe them when they say they love them after knowing them for such a short period of time.
If a TG really likes you she will be prepared to wait for you regardless of whether you send money or not.After all many Thai working girls are supporting useless Thai boyfriends who i presume they like so if they like you there is no need to send money. If they are a working girl try to convince them to do something else or failing that be content to let them continue working until you can live in the same country together.
Really unless you are living in the same country it is a waste of time and money.i.e. geographically impossible
