With referwnce to the talk on internet, I was in touch with Loxinfo as I too am planning to move to LOS next year and was assured ADSL is available in certain areas of BKK 256/128 Kbs. He suggested I contact them with telephone Nos of prospective accom and he can tell you if available in that area, obviously you will need dedicated private line.

Myself, I get 'near' (or at least faster) DSL speed by just using two computers to work and have them both up on 56.6 the whole time (both on Loxinfo... although I also use CS as a backup). I haven't switched to the real DSL service because frankly I haven't been impressed with what's offered. Just at the display booths... say by Telecom Asia, they can't keep the demonstration connection up to speed. Makes me think they won't be able to at my house.

Hello, first post on this board. I'd like to say that I'm amazed at the amount of money you guys need to live here. I make 35 to 40K a month teaching English and usually save around 10 to 15K of my salary. My apartment is 3.3K a month with utilities (no A/C). I take an aircon bus to work on the weekdays and a taxi to get to the campus (about 2.4K in transportation expenses with a skytrain pass). On the weekdays, I only eat Thai food and a few snacks from 7-11 (about 150 baht a day or 4.5K). On the weekends, I'll slurge on a 300 or 400 baht meal so the weekends I spend around 1,000 baht (4K). So food, accomadations, and transportation are 13.3K a month. I am a young guy (25) so I have an on and off thai girlfriend. Bargirls might prefer older men that have more money, but young girls are like girls everywhere. They would rather f_ck a guy around the same age as them. It helps that I can hold a conversation in Thai. I do indulge in the scene also. Maybe two days or three days of the month I'll blow 6K having fun in Sukhumvit (yes I budget this amount. It's a financial transaction at the end of the day. I don't want any emotional attachments). Add another 5K for misc expenses I have during the month, and my total spending is 24.3K a month. The rest I save for traveling around Asia during school holidays and having some cash when I get back to the States.
I know most of you think I live a spartan lifestyle, but I think I live pretty comfortably without working too hard (M-f 9 to 5).

hajiman, i envy you. İi mean it. you are now probably having more fun with less than me. but ...hmmm...maybe when i was 25... i was having more fun than you are now. so....maybe the moral is that i should not compare myself to you but to guys my own age. and....hmmm... i think i have had and i am having much more fun now than most of my my old friends from years ago -now most of my new friends are your age  .
but yes, i still envy you a bit, but perhaps because i came to thailand at an age older than yours

Now that is a very respecable number to live on.
I am planning on having a great time on 75,000. a month, but I see others complaining at the 100,000 + range.
To each his own. I am 32 years old and still think it would be easy to be in the same situation of the 100K per month and wishing it was 200K rut.
I figure I will save some Baht on the fact that a lot of guys with that amount of money pick up many many more BG's than I would and I am really not a big drinker so I planned on saving some there (over the 100,000 complainer) I also don't do drugs, and that has to be a money saver as well.
My problem is finding a furnished apt for under 40K and still having 20K for fun and girls and 15K for everything else.
That is one of the reasons for my next visit in March. To scout out places and prices. close to town. Was also considering Pattaya.
I will post my research or FR when I get back.
