Nokna..... you (the British people) elect a government do make decisions on your behalf. A few centuries ago one of those decisions was to join th EU.
The way you put it it sounds un-democratic, and it's far from it.
If the British public were so against the EU then that would be reflected in the countries politics.
If enough people were against it, there would be a move to pull out.
As for why we need an EU (we as in Europe, not we as in you and I).... well doesn't that all stem back to WWI & II and assuring that doesn't happen again???
For what it's worth, I am neither pro nor anti-EU.... I really am very neutral on the matter....I just dislike some of the 'they rule us' rhetoric that I hear on EU matters. As though this "they" were some alien beings instead of our own democratically elected representatives.

About Exchange of currency in thailand.
If you are from a EU country or north america or AUS or NZ bring your own currency unless you can find a cheap place to buy thai baht at home.
See exchange rates on http://www.BBL.CO.TH
Or withdraw thai money on a Visa card. There are plenty of ATMs all over Thailand and usually modest fees if withdrawing large amounts.
Or pay with your credit without any fee many places in Thailand. The banks usually only charge 1 to 2 % over the central bank exchange rate for CC purchaces.
