well, I will take your request as serious and not a trap or jab at me.
Oil is over priced by $30 just on the specs. Wait for a top to take hold and then you could possibly see a very fast move down to $60. Lots of arguements about 'peak oil' http://www.simmonsco-intl.com/files/Capitol%20Hill%20-%20Depletion%20&%20Peak%20oil.pdf
I would think th elong term price of oil goes up, but once this trend reverses, it will be violent.
Forget the S&P, I would just pick a few stockes you like and sell the puts, take the income and if they sell off you own it. A great way to trade the market..... Adecent trade to put on is to buy the financials by selling the puts, taking the income and then on any selloff you go tthem at lower prices than they are now. The financials are the woprst performing sector the past year and in q1 08 they will writedown the last of the 'creeping crud'...... then they will be poised to finish the second half of 08 showing some good numbers and the market will trade them up.
This trade is also a bet that all the money that came to the rescue of the U.S. banks is smart money and they are betting on a rebound.

Things costs what people want them to cost (the market). Current prices always reflect maket consensus based on available information and rational expectations (well, some time one doubts the rationality of some prices).
If everyone expected that something would go down or up soon, then price would rapidly adjust to that level. People make all kind of predictions, some say price in one month will be X, another says Y, and another one says Z. Eventually someone will be right. Now, if someone is always smarter than the market, people start to notice and try to imitate that personīs moves. That person moves, decissions, opinons, start to have an effect on the market. Thus the market starts taking into account the information derived from that personīs actions.
At the end, it is all a bet. Those that spend time working and studing the markets, tend to make better educated bets. However they have an opportunity cost... the time spent following the markets someone else is using it doing something else and making money in another fashion.

Try telling that to the people who invested in Internet stocks. The contraian view works much better. A couple of years ago I seen the train wreck that would happen with the bad loans in the USA. I mean any moron can see it by listening to the ads....
"We can give you a loan worth 120% of you new appraised value and you do not even have to have a job" WTF????
I agree with thailife oil went up too far too fast. This will kick many alternatives into gear (aka gasahol) and as these come into the market it will reduce the demand for oil.
