Same here.
I have had an account with Bangkok Bank since 2001 and I have received wire transfers from all over. Never any problem. Funds credited in less than 24 hours.
Of course the party making the transfer has to pay the fee his bank charges.
It doesn't make sense transferring US$ 100 and paying $30. But the same fee of US$ 30 becomes 0.3% of the total funds if you transfer US$ 10,000.
The most absurdly expensive charge that I have seen is BofA charging 3% on all foreign charges made to a USA based credit card.

lesson learned to date - be careful who your major USA bank is before moving to bangkok.
if it is BofA - it doesn't matter because you can spend all afternoon before leaving setting up the process and it doesn't work once you try to use it...

Just spoke with a couple of BGs, and they were telling me that they had no luck with receiving wire transfers to their Kasikorn accounts, however Bangkok Bank was fine. Mokewen, you could try opening a Bangkok Bank account and see if that works.

that's a good thought. I was just informed that starting next month, in order to transfer money from BofA to an outside bank, you will need a new BofA smart card. when you are ready to transfer funds, the smart card will give you a one-time-only pass-code which will authorize the transaction when entered.
they will only mail it to you USA address of record. if I have it mailed to me, I wonder whether it will work in bkk? if not, I wonder if I should lt my thai lady friend living in CA act as middleman?
the banking world had changed in the past 5 to 10 years - nothing is getting any easier!
that could be dicey! I might be able to post in "TG's in Farangland".........

In the past month I have made two transfers from my WaMu (now Chase) account in California to my TGF's account at Kasikorn bank. No problems, funds arrived in about 48 hours. I made sure that they input the SWIFT ID and the receiving branch name and address. WaMu/Chase offers free outgoing international wires, so now that ATM withdrawal charges are so hign this is a good solution.

Everyone else seems to be able to wire transfer funds from the USA. How difficult can this be! I am beginning to feel retarded.
I send another email to BofA this morning complaining they left me stranded in Bangkok without support. They finally acknowledged this one and assigned a case number. I will hopefully hear from them soon........

It is not you Mokewen; it is BofA. Forget them.
I have an account with BofA in the USA. So does my father (in the same branch). We have the same name. There is no way I can arrange a transfer from my account to his when I am outside the USA. I cannot even register for Internet banking to transfer money from a BofA account to another BofA account. In my case they say it is not possible because I have registered as main residence an address outside the USA. I am seriously thinking about closing that BofA account.

HaSN'T the recent major recession taught anyone anything??? Do NOT trust American banks,,, but do, do trust their ability to off-load their debts to others.
One day they will get caught-out before off-loading,, that will be a BIG bad time,, thank God China is the new world leader in econimics,, they setg uyp their banks with Australian banking rules
