hi. I'd be curious to know what's the going rate for a US $100. Last trip to BKK, I didnt have any US$, and used my ATM card, and just checked my bank statement, and I was getting B42.91 per US$. If I remember correctly, the exchange places were offering just over B43/$

Oops, just answered my own question by looking at MT's posted site. That shows 43.1 for US $!00. So, if you do the math for US $100's vs ATM. At $1000 for notes = 43,100 For ATM for $1000 = 42,900 roughly an $US 8.00 difference for every $1000.00. Not bad, I'll stick w/ the ATM and not worry about carrying cash.

yeah But remember to carry a spare card. Last trip the ATM screwed up and kept my card whilst still debiting my account and not giving any cash. My bank told me that cash cards are my resposibility and I have had to make a claim for the money to be credited back to my account. My UK bank has recently tightened CC security and when the "system" saw my CC being used in Dubai, Hong Kong and LOS then it panicked and blocked it. Apparently the system was telling the hotel where I tried to use it to make telephone contact for clearance, but I'm sure they ain't gonna do that. So I had to use another CC, fortunately that worked OK. Dave

Good advice. I only take a few cards with me when I travel. And of those cards that I do take with me, I call the card issuers and notify them of my travel itinerary to prevent any unforseen circumstances. The US-based card issuers are always concerned about transactions in Thailand, and of course, Indonesia.

excellent advise. I had that problem once, and fortunately my US bank will WesternUnion me money in an emergency. Is that great or what? I had them do that for me once in the PI. As a side note, its best to try the ATM during bank business hours, so if your card disappears in an ATM, you might stand a decent chance of getting it back. cheers mates....
