Smeg - I thought teaching was one of only a few things farangs could do in BKK? Dont get me wrong, i`m not the smartest person, but then again i`m not stupid. But saying that I dont really have any qualifications in any accodemic subjects.
Jobs i`vew done;
Mobility Engineer - No call for these in BKK, I wouldn`t have thought
Mechanic - Thais can do it for peanuts
Data Cabling - As above
So you see my choices are limited.
BK - 100K, yeah I understand some teachers can earn that, but at what cost? How many hours are they working, and what is their social life like? I want to work to live, not live to work. Isn`t that the same of everyone in LOS?
I think I could live in BKK on bt40,000. Or at least try!

Forget about living on 40K in Bangkok. YOu'd better stay home and save money for some holidays.
Quick update on salary level (If is it still of interest for any of you).
Secretary are earning 15 to 30 K in my company (Some have MBAs, no kidding). A guy doing IT installation work is earning anything between 30 to 60k and a sales guy (Junior) is in the 30k range. No in some Private Thai company such as TA it is easy to find guys at 300k and more (Senior Management).

I`ve been reading many articles regarding teachers in BKK and they say they can manage on 30K a month, so... I was thinking 40K a month wouldn`t be too bad?

Bank Presidents (of the mothership - not a neighborhood branch) make 200-250k + car + driver + tons of other perks they only hint at...the only way to get paid in TLAND is to have your own biz (preferably with customers overseas) or be able to do something NOBODY in the country can do now.
Or failing that, get born into one of the top 50 influential families and get your back scratched all day long.

I know of one UK guy thats just taken his first teaching job works 9-5 six days a week and takes home 15K a month.......... his first months bar tab was 14K

I wouldn't take a 14K bartab on a salary of 15K as evidence of anything.
The Brits, they can drink their salary away, no matter how large.
It starts at University. I remember (this was 20 years ago) the National Union of Students claiming that the student grant was too low because so many students were in debt: balderdash - I made a profit on mine, and I wasn't even on a full one!
