Damn. Dollar stuck at 33 baht. I hope it can make it to 34 baht by the time I depart for my trip at the end of August ☺

The good news is people are parking
money *( big time currency investors)
But ironically the exports are down by
huge numbers.
America is viewing currency manipulation

But I doubt will charge.

The good news lays in the bubble.

Once investors flee it will be a tsunami of
Loss.

Poor markets and artifical currency
But strong growth
Equal correction

And expect about 20% fall by 2020 june

Or in real terms we claw back to where it ought
To be

Look at page 1 of this thread. Tyler Durdin informs us the rate was 42 THB per US$ in June 2002. Those were such happy times. I recall the rate was around THB 40 when I first visited LOS in 1999-2000. Those were the days Thailand was emerging from the 1997 Asian crisis. And I recall a Thai official saying confidently at a conference that his country would emerge strong.

It's not just the US dollar but virtually every other currency that has been hammered by the THB. It's the reason tourism numbers are suffering now. At the malls several vendors seem dispirited as they announce bigger discounts to attract shoppers whose numbers are dwindling. Several bars don't have the liveliness of old. Patpong is dead. Sukhumvit Road still seems to have crowds but not the kind it used to have at 2 am a few years ago.

Interestingly the shopkeepers seem to grasp this situation. Tell them Baht too much expensive and they understand. It's the reason the 199 THB price tags have yet not disappeared in the malls and are instead facing competition from 150 THB and 100 THB price tags. In most other countries inflation has pushed up prices of all goods.

It's an engaging riddle. Would you rather have the THB appreciating and prices to remain constant, even fall, in THB terms ? Or, would you prefer the THB to depreciate and prices of drinks, food, clothing, room rents, etc in THB terms to shoot up?

The USD peaked at 31.21 last Friday. Hope the Baht weakens some more...
