I am French and lived in 7 different countries... (Now in LOS) and can happily prove you wrong. While I agree that certain French People are very Xenophobic, does that Mean all French People are? Certainly not so. To go back on Topic, 300,000 is more than enough to live a VERY Comfortable life Here. and As it was said earlier, you can easily save 150k/month.

Broken Leg I think the pun is a classic.... obviously some humour is for uncivilised ppl like us, and the civilised people like the French don't get it. BTW ever seen that episode of Young Ones where the landlord goes into a freestyle piece half time report about the progress of the show, which will be up against stiff competition from the Swedish entry "Ja where is my Volvo" and the French entry "Mr Poopoo goes to the lavatory" That sums up my encounters with french sense of humour rather nicely.

hi, sure you can have a great time on 300k a month in thailand. plenty of fun and should be able to save some too. how much you save will depend on how much fun you have. i would not bank on saving too much though... life is too short.. amarka

You've got to be joking... I find this 300K survival discussion entirely academic in nature. 300,000 Baht/month is approximately triple the average salary in my Farang hometown (a major city). On that kind of salary in BKK, you can live like a wealthy nabob - that's more than enough to save, invest, and lead a very hedonistic lifestyle. Christ I hope he was for real and got this job...for his sake.

There's no clear definition of what makes a person civilized, but thankfully the under-civilized never fail to raise their hand to point themselves out. Nature works well, in that way.

What type of life style do you have in Falang land? Say you drive $120K car in Falang land that costs over $300K in Thailand. What about travel budget, if I want to take 4 trips to Europe and 4 to the US each year? Many people earning $20K+ a month would have a big drop in life style earning 300K TB in LOS!

Compexec1, Sure, if you are running a Fortune 500 corporation, making $2-3 million a year plus another $10 million in stock options, a move to BKK and a B300,000 salary probably wouldn't make much sense. But the OP's question was not put forth on a comparative basis - he didn't mention what he was doing in Farangland. The question was how far 300K would get him in Bangkok. Like I said, that kind of money is triple what an average person makes in my Farang city, which is far more expensive than Bangkok. How many people on this forum make US$20,000 a month in their homeland? I would venture a guess - not many. So in that respect, the sum is mind-boggling. Most English teachers in BKK rake in, what, 40-60K a month? And they get by (although they probably don't go lux-lux). We even had a poster who survived on 10K a month (though he admitted that masturbation was about as good as it got for the poor fellow) ! I will maintain that unless you're a hotshot back home in Farangland - and I mean a Hotshot! - 300K a month in BKK is a plenty.

Not sure, 20 K a month is a bit short if you want to have a big appartment in a nice area with full time house maids in a place like Paris, while you could get an awesome apparment/house and servant or whatever the name in BKK. Same for girls, another item which comes much cheaper in luxury package in BKK than Paris. Agree with high end western consumer goods though,,more expensive in thailand. But basically, the point is : 20 K$US a month is not enough.
