Clearly, the high French unemployment rate cannot be primarily attributed to the falling US dollar against the Euro. But it is part of the problem according to the author. Maybe not just for wine, but also for those expensive Airbus planes, which now cost a lot more than an equivalent Boeing plane. For some reason, when I quote a source directly, you attack me instead of the author of the quote. According to the AP reporter, the EU ministers are complaining that something has to be done about the falling US dollar, and the undervalued Chinese Yuan and Japanese Yen. Why do they complain? Because it hurts EU exports, which translates into jobs. If the falling dollar did not hurt EU exports (jobs) they would be rejoicing in the EU over the weakness of the US currency.

LOL. Alan hates being told that anything he may have said could be wrong. He will keep `reaching,` he will never walk away. Somehow he reminds me of Bandit, though Bandit was more entertaining. I hate to agree with Daffy, but yes, Alan chose a bad example.

So I assume you do not think the AP news reporter should have mentioned that French wine is more expensive when the value of the US dollar declines against the Euro? Speaking of news, it would be a miracle if you ever agreed with anything I posted, even if I copied one of your previous posts.

KK, I normally take around $1500 cash and exchange it at a Thai Farmers Bank (my Thai bank) and use an ATM when that runs out...simply so I dont have a lot on my person....which, if you know me, makes sense But to answer your question I have usually found banks offer a better rate...and besides I swore off street exchanges after they shorted my Dad on a $200 exchange and if myself and mrs atl were not there (just not in sight of the guy) he would have gotten away with it But, depending on when you arrive, means you need about 2000baht in your pocket or exchange enough (like $100 bucks or so) at the Airport to make it until they open.....fortunatly, mrs atl keeps a few thousand baht after each of our trips anyway for that exact purpose cheers, atl

I wont go into the debate between anyone - but matter of the fact is that for us Europeans the EUR and dollar has lost value when we travel. And all currency in Europe is not EUR! We Scandinavians for instance have the "pleasure" of seeing our Krona going down vs Baht with 23% just the last couple of months! Wow.... So for me next month when back in town again - will have to be a little bit more thinking of at least trying some sort of budget! Usually fails though later at night.....!

Best rate I have seen is on the east end of the Phong Phrom (soi 24) BTS platform where there are 3 currency exchange places right next to each other (not sure they are all still there). But the large banks are not bad either. I usually cashed my travelers checks at the Bank of Bangkok at Emporium. Airport has good posted rates, but their fees are much higher. Only cash enough for one day when you arrive at the airport.

I realize that your trips to LOS are going to suffer with the exchange rate, but having a higher valued currency is not good right now for your country. Countries like Japan, whose currency has been strong recently, have experienced a drop in exports of about 30%. Same thing is happening in China, but to a slightly lesser degree. Both Japan and China had artificially low exchange rates to encourage exports, but they will be taking a beating in 2009 with high unemployment and reduction in GDP.

Best exchange rate I found last year for 100 USD was on the 2nd floor in the Time Square building. Rate for cash was better than for traveler's check. Strange, as the opposite is normally the case. As you enter in the building via the overhead pedestrian bridge from Robinsons, make a quick right, then a left and it's to the left immediately past a Korean restaurant. I think it was called Global something.
