Be afraid, very afraid when you use your credit card in LOS. I have had my card cloned and used in different countries. What I do now is use only one card and when I get back, I cancel the card and have the cc company issue a new one.
Newbie expat in Pattaya used his ATM card as a credit card and someone cloned his card and drained his account. His US bank had to fed x him a new card. What a hassle.
I only use my ATM card at banks and when I finish, I take the card back to the hotel lock box. I don't carry it with me and I get two days cash out at a time.

BIGDUSA- Thank you for your bit of timely advise. Following my debacle a few yrs. ago, I now carry good ol US cashola, from home. When I arrive I convert enough for one or two days at the airport, and stash the rest in the hotel safe along with passport, credit cards, plane ticket, prescription sunglasses, dentures (Yuk-YUk) and whatever else may be worth something to someone. From day one on when Baht runs low, I simply grab from the stash and hit the currenncy X-change. I've found this to be easy and safe. I learned my lesson and would never wish my poor fool luck on the another brother. Great post.

This post made me reconsider my own procedure.
In the US I have 2 bank (ATM) accounts and 1 CC account.
ATM card#1 is my carried card. I only use it at reputable hotels and ATMs. The account only has enough money for roughly 2 days in LOS maximum.
ATM card #2 is in a safe at home. It's my primary bank account. It has a considerably higher balance than card #1.
The CC is stashed in a safe in LOS. It doesn't have a high limit, but has enough to get me out of an emergency if need be. It's emergency use only.
Basicly, I transfer money from ATM #2 to ATM #1 every day or two as needed. Only in small amounts though. The transfer is quite simple and almost instant. Sure the whole thing is a little complicated, but the peace of mind is worth a few minuites every day or two.
So, can anyone find a flaw in this? If so I'd rather find out right here than a bank in LOS.

TAX REFUGEE- You got it man, I'd only add that the ATM will work if it has a "Star" or "Cirruss" (major label) on it, and yes, no arguement, in a pinch, or if you're pinched, it will be good back up. Smart thinkin. Have fun.
And take extra condoms for the maids.
