I am looking for a suggestion of a good lawyer (and any advice which will help) regarding building a house for my TG. Here is the story... she tells me that her mother will give her a plot of land in her village (Buriram area) and wants to build a house on it - can I help. I have seen her over 5 visits to BKK and last time I went to visit her family and stayed 4 days in their house. So I have seen the land and spoken to her uncle who is a builder. She wants a small shop at the house to sell beer which she thinks will do well, she showed me the house of the local shopkeeper with a Farang BF who was doing ok (nice house, newish car etc). I want to help, the cost is not massive by western standards and she is a real darling BUT I don't want to get stuffed if it all goes pearshaped. Can I buy a lease on the land, register ownership or anything to protect my 'investment' or is it a big gamble on trust? I think she is honourable and really does aspire to moving back home and getting this shop set up. There is some extra land adjacent to the plot her mother has which her mother says she will buy for her if she builds a house. Any ideas on what I can do or any forums to look in (or tell me I am just another lovestruck sucker... )

Probably the first step would be to check if her mother is going to give her the land for real. Or wait until she has done so, get the land documents and have them checked by a lawyer. Then I would take it from there. It will be a guess but then again life is full of them. You cannot own or partly own the land. You could get a 30 year lease on it, but you would have to see if that is worth the hassle because you are not talking millions of baht here.
