Dear all,
as expat with a good knowledge of bangkok and its secrets, i'd like to share what i consider a valuable information when comes to currency exchange....
In viphavadi-rangsit road, not too far from the Sofitel Central Ladprao, there is a Thai Airways building (you can't miss the huge logo) and behind it, there is a little market and at the very beginning of this market there is a shop with dark windows named "super rich co.,Ltd"...
It's a "unofficial" currency exchange (the owner is a police general) where i always go when i need to chenge us$ or euros...The rate they give is 10/15% higher than the official rate applied by any bank......It comes very convenient when you have to change a minimum of 500us$ as you can walk away with a couple of thousand baht heavyer.......
Is it safe? Is it sure? Yes, for my personal experience, no moneky business, no fake notes........

can you tell me what the actual rate was you got there for US dollars. As this place is some way from where I live, it would really need to be worth the trip to change some dollars and I do have to change about $5000 very soon, so if it is a considerably better rate, it would be worth the trip. Most exchanges and banks around me are currently changing US for about 40.50. I usually find the BOA bank in Silom has consistantly the best exchange rate around for Aussie dollars over the last 8 months, but don't usually check on the US and compare.

ducks, those money changers just across the soi from Gulliver's can give you a better rate than the banks. Give them a try, while you are having a couple of beers at GT.

Yes, I have used them before and after many beers at Nana though. But their rate for Oz dollars at least at the time, was worse than the BOA in Silom by about 2-3 baht from memory. I will check out there US rates, but would not want to go in there with a large sum to change after a few drinks as they all seem a little to a lot shifty.

no way is a money changer going to give 10-15% more..
that would be 45-47 Baht to the US$ .. they would go broke quickly at that rate..
