hello my gf using a special card and account set up for her withdrew some money first time it cost 300b fee the second time it was a 1000b fee  typically my bank charges $5 for overseas wrawl but the seconnd time the thai bank added an astronomical fee does anyone know of any banks in Pattaya that wont soak you with fees or how to avoid this?

Can you elaborate what type of special card and from which country. I use an ATM card from the USA all the time and the maximum I get charged from various bank ATM's (Thai Farmers, SCB, Bangkok Bank) is 5 THB most of the time nothing. The charge on the USA side is $3.00 USD. The exchange rate is quite good as well.
My card has both Star & Cirrus network capability. The fees that you are getting are definitely outrageous.

its just an Average ATM card linked to a checking account I have set up for her so I can transfer money rather than wiring it

Is the account and the ATM card with a US bank? Look at the back of the ATM card and see what network symbol(s) and name(s) it has. Some of the common ones in the US are Cirrus, Star and Plus
The high fees could be the result of your TGF using the ATM cards on machines that are not part of the card's network. Actually, I am not sure if the card would work if it's not part of the network; however, if it does, the bank would have to send the ATM withdrawal through collection, therefore, the extra charge.

You might try setting up some accounts with Citibank, one for you in US and one for her with Citibank in Thailand (can be in US dollars or baht). You can then easily transfer money from a Citibank account in the US to her account. There should be no surcharge for her ATM use (maybe subject to certain maximums per month).

Hi thanks for your suggestions.. that could be the problem I will tell her about the network Cirrus, Star and Plus see if that was the issue if its still a problem I will look into that citibank thing

Here's a simple remedy for those sky rocketing service charges:
instead of taking out the amount you only need for a couple of days, why not take out a weeks worth or even more? This way, you will only pay the service charge once instead of several times.

Alsoo, looks to me like she was taking oout money from different ATMs (i.e. not the same ATM everytime). Different ATMs chareg different fees - but regardless, the fees still looked outrageous.
Maybe she's not using Bank ATMs, but private ATMs.
