I don't think this has been covered: How can I send small amounts (<20, 000 baht) from my Thai SAVINGS (not checking) account to various recipients in the US? Electronic transfers would be prohibitively expensive. Is there a web-based banking service that could accept Thai baht, and disburse funds in US$? Answers in the form of questions, like "Why don't you just use your US bank account?", etc., will NOT be helpful... Thanks in advance, haam sup

I am also interested in NM's "plan"...?? I have a similar problem, every couple of months I received small checks ($30 to $70 U.S.), but I can't deposit them into my Thai account. They want to send the checks back to the U.S. for verification and then back to Thailand and the banks charge me $30.00 for each check....so it's not worth sending the smaller ones. Any suggestions on a solution to this problem? Thanks....

HS, had a similar question for my accountant last year. He said a Chinese lady friend of his works in a U.S. bank and said foreigners (in this case Chinese) are opening some sort of share draft account from China that is also accessible from banks here. He also said because of the nature of these accounts, the money removed from them here is not tracked the way it would be if a U.S. citizen opened the account. It becomes, in essence, a portal to the money. This discussion was under the auspices of a chat we had about people who make money overseas (e.g., China) and have to "visit" their money to avoid onerous taxes. I'm not sure how to set this type of account up, but he assured me it is legal and not well understood by most Americans. - Balls

Assuming the person you trust in LOS has a US checking account, sent him your savings account ATM card for him to withdraw money for his use. Have him mail you cheques drawn on his USA account for the equivalent amounts you want made in payable to the different parties.

ummm, well I guess what I was getting at was, I had a friend in Oz that had business accounts here in Los, when I was in Oz and wanted to send a small amount to someone, I would give him the cash in AUD and he would make a phone call and give the cash to them in Los, no fees or transfers. But you need someone with accounts in both Los and US and would be happy for you to give them whatever currency where you are based and arrange for someoen to pay it over in the other currency to your destination, I not sure what country you are resident in. Clear as mud now huh.

HS I can write checks on my US account for money received in BKK. Said check is then posted from BKK. How do you get me the BAHT? And then, of course, you must trust me to send check and that said check clears with no problem. Such a transaction requires complete trust. I, of course, have a sterling character. That is to say, um, fraud and theft are not in my suite of vices. JMM do you get the checks from the USA? if you do (i.e. dollar denominated, from US bank) then I can deposit them in my US account by mail and give you baht in BKK when they clear.
