has anyone deposited USD or Baht ( cash ) into their US bank account from BKK ? if so, any hurdles ? would appreciate any links, advice, suggestions, etc.... thx.

Not to my own account, but to a third party account.
What you have to keep in mind is that if you bring cash to the bank (USD) they first convert it to baht, then again to USD. This because of being different rates for cash and transfers.
If you have Baht, then of course, then the bank transfers either the amount in baht or buys USD and sends it in USD.
Other than that, no problems.... I used the Siam Commercial Bank for such transfers many times.

I don't think it matters if you have an account or not.
MY GF has sent money recently without having an account.

You cannot directlt deposit into your US Bank account. I heard even if you have an account with a US Bank in Thailand, (Citicorp, Bank of America) that you still have to transfer money by wire transfer.
You can easily transfer money by wire transfer to a USA bank account. I have done it with both Thai Farmers Bank (Forget the new name) and Siam Commerical Bank
