American Express TC are definitely easy to cash, but there may be others equally as easy. I cashed most of mine at the Bank of Bangkok where they seemed to enter the serial numbers into a computer screen for verification. I get AMX TC's without any fee from my bank. If I could only get a different brand without paying a fee, I would probably go with them instead.

As I mentioned before in the Forum, I plan to spend 35 nights in LOS during December/January. Obviously my accommodation/flights will be pre paid before departure. That leaves me with spending money during my stay. Most people recommend travellers cheques for the best exchange rate and as I can get them here in the U.K. commission free am inclined to agree. I plan on taking the equivalent of approx 5,000 pounds in t/cheques. To the best of my knowledge these come in units of maximum 100 pounds hence that means I would have to pre sign 500 times! If at all possible I don't want to use my credit cards whilst there, so has anyone any suggestions around this problem. I had thought of taking a few bankers drafts made out to myself, but this would obviously involve bank charges. What has anyone else done in this situation?

Why is that? Do you need to sign each of the 50 cheques 10 times? I never heard of any such TC that requires so many signatures. Which are those?

hey KiNHoY!! remember me? whats up ? how were your remaining days in BKK? I used Visa Travelers Cheques on my trip there they are not as widely accepted as Amex but I had no trouble finding someplace to cash them..I used visa instead of Amex because I am a AAA member and they use Visa and have no fees for there cheques its virtually an even exchange that costs you nothing..later Bro!

Apols to Smegma and others who read my previous posting. Seems my my brain was operating on "slow mode" when I made that posting - of course only 50 signatures required for 50 X £100 travellers cheques. Sorry again for time wasting - shall engage brain before operating keyboard in future.

5,000 pounds for 35 days is about 10,600 baht per day (not including hotel which you say is pre-paid). That sounds like a lot baht to spend every day for 35 days.

shoresideguy, if you use your credit card at atm's only, the risk of having problems with false deduccions is really small. I always do it, never had a problem. but be careful to whom you give your card to in hotels or restaurants for example. peace buxeda

If you use a credit card at an ATM, you many not get false deductions, but you will get lots of real deductions such as: - poor exchange rate - exchage rate fee (usually about 3-4%) - fees for using an ATM not owned by your bank - interest charges (if not a debit card)

I have always used American Express Travelers Checks in BKK & throughout the world and can cash them almost anywhere. There is no charge to purchase them with US$ and no charge to convert them back to US$ if you have any left over. You can get them in denominations of $500, certainly in the UK, although any denomination of $100 or above gives best exchange rate when cashing them. Works well to buy some @ $500, to cash at banks & Money Exchanges, plus some @ $100, to cash elsewhere, as most smaller places just don't keep eough money available to cash the 500s.
