What sort of tip does Etiquette require for:

Is one also supposed to tip the mama/papa san at such establishments and how much?

I notice that although your thread has been visited 54 times no one has yet replied to your question .
Maybe it is because most members feel that this question has already been covered in so many different threads under so many different topics .
However since you are a very new member I would like to welcome you with some information on the subject - I am no expert but for whatever it is worth here are the norms I follow :-
(1) Tipping at Restaurants / Bars :- The Thais do not indulge in tipping and at most they tend to only leave behind the coins in the tray . You really don't have to give 10% - I suggest that you keep your 10% rewards only when you feel you have been given exceptional service . For all other levels of service you could use a sliding scale .
(2) Traditional Thai Massage :- Here the Thais tip between B20 and B50 ; other Asians ( HK , S'Pore , Taiwan ,etc. ) tip between B100 & B200 . My suggestion is to tip B100 per hour ONLY for exceptional service and for all other levels of service use a sliding scale .
(3) Oil Massage :- The system at an Oil Massage is that you pay for the massage at the counter (B700 or B800 for 2 hours ) . If you do not have sex ( which is highly unlikely !! ) then a tip of B200 should be fine for an excellent massage with a sliding scale as usual . If you do have sex the rate is B1500 and this is considered inclusive of tip . However if you do want the particular girl to welcome you the next time then an additional B200 or so would not hurt .
(4) Soapy Massage (M.P.) :- Here the system is that you pay at the counter ( ranges from B700 to B10,000 - the average being B1900 ) for the Soapy , the Massage & sex . The Thais tip between B150 & B300 . Other Asians tip between B250 & B500 . I think in general B500 should be fine .

I've been thru all the data & am now somewhat better informed on this matter.
