I will be trying to move some money into Thailand in the coming months. I would like to keep most of it outside and move money for things like deposits and a car into Thailand at some time.
I have used the HSBC but they are being a pain. It would be nice to have an account in dollars or pounds sterling outside of Thailand that I can transfer funds to the local branch with minimal hassle and maximum speed.
Anyone have ideas?

Mr Alan
Citibank (a very large US bank) has a bank in Bangkok that offers local accounts in either dollars or baht. If one had an account with Citibank in the US, that might be a good solution. But a regular wire transfer from any bank would work, but the international transfer fees might be a bit more.

An easy way to bring money in (up to US$10k max each time - I guess this would be every week or so) is to go to the American Express office (provided you have an AMEX card) and write them a cheque from your own foreign account. They will immediately convert to Thai Baht there and will give you the cash.

For once you even are ahead of the banks as the float is yours -it takes about 2 to 3 weeks to the check to be debited from your account, but you already had use of the converted funds here.

Nice one Smegs,
I like the idea of the instant transfer. I have tried moving money from the UK and even Singapore but there is always a delay accompanied by a hefty fee.
